     NATCHEZ-Funeral services for William Carlton “Le’Roi” Greer, Sr., 73, of Vidalia, who died February 4, 2011 at his residence in Vidalia, will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday February 8, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. C. D. Beard officiating.

     Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

     Visitation will be Monday 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home.

     Mr. Greer was born January 3, 1938 in Brookhaven, Ms the son of William Carey Greer and Lucy Edna Carlton Greer. He was a deputy for Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department, dispatch and Captain for Concordia Parish Fire Department #2. He was a member of Bougere Baptist Church; Captain of Deer Park neighborhood watch; Charter Member and Captain of Station # 8 for Concordia Parish Fire District #2.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse: Helen Rasberry Greer; brother: Amos (Butch) Greer; Son: Harry Brown; and daughter: Rita Brown Perrault.

     Survivors : Six Daughters: Maria Greer of Vidalia; Carlette Williams and husband Cliff of Natchez; Lori Hubright of Vidalia; Helen Brown Thrash and husband Scott of Hattiesburg, Ms; Monica Rushing and husband Ken of Richland, Ms.; Shawny Brown Clevland and husband Jason of Sardis, Ms.

     Two Sons: William Carlton Greer, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Houston, Tx; Bill Brown and wife Carol of Baton Rouge, La.

     And many many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren including those that knew him as PaPaw Le’Roi

     One Sister: Cookie Greer Gathings of Birmingham, Al.

     One Dear Friend: Mary Greer

     Active Pallbearers will be the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department and Concordia Parish Fire Department

     Forever in our hearts, Forever with the Lord

     Yvonne (Ivon) Hall Loflin went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 in the Natchez Community Hospital where she had been hospitalized after suffering a massive stroke the day before.

     A graveside memorial service will be led by Rev. Jeff Brewer, Pastor of Parkway Baptist Church at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 4:30 pm on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

     Those designated to serve as honorary pallbearers include, Mark Griffin, Jim Griffin, Jon Loflin, Paul Loflin, Nathan Calhoun, Lynwood Easterling, and Glenn Mizell.

     After Ivon’s health declined and she sold her home in Montebello, she lived for two years with her son, Mack Loflin and his partner John DeTore, Jr. in West Palm Beach, FL and subsequently for ten months with her daughter and husband, Lavonne and Keith Searing in Baton Rouge, LA., but nothing could keep her away from Natchez where she returned to reside at Glenburney Convalescence Center for the past two years. Although she traveled to her ancestral home in Ireland and throughout the United States and Canada with her son, Ivon called Natchez her home for most of her adult life. She was a founding member of Parkway Baptist Church and active in her Sunday School Class there for as long as she was able to live alone and drive her car. As anyone who knew her can tell you, she was a happy soul who delighted in making others smile. The “Life of the Party”, she never faltered in reaching out to those around her throughtout her life.

     Born in to a family of nine other children in Franklin County, MS., on June 26, 1921, Ivon is survived by her two children, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and well loved sister-in-law, Guynel Hall and a host of nieces and nephews. Her father, William Green Hall and Mother, Ruth Ravella Martin Hall, were farmers who presided over their large family with firmness and generosity of spirit. Ivon was married to James Stanley Loflin of Nov. 17, 1939. Stanley worked in the oil fields for more than 20 years. After a disabling stroke which took his abilty to speak clearly and limited his mobility, they lived on Edgewood Road in Montebello for many years. Stanley passed away on Dec. 31, 1979 and is buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, where Ivon will be placed next to him.

     Of course, Ivon’s greatest joy was her family and her little dogs, Coco then Jake. Sadly, over the years, the children grew up and moved away, the grandchildren seldom came around anymore and the great grandchildren were little more than Christmas cards and photographs. Quick to make friends, Ivon was seldom alone but in later years she yearned to return to her heavenly home and to be reunited in spirit with her entire family who had gone on before. Nevertheless, her spirits were seldom down and she had a quick joke in response to most any adversity. Throughout her hard working life as a share cropper, factory worker and devoted mother, she displayed a courage and determination worthy of a field General. Her nickname at Glenburney was “She-need-a” and she had a T-shirt printed to display that name together with her little wiener dog, Jake. This was typical of her usual sense of fun. Many will miss her.
