The Nacogdoches Police Department is currently investigating a reported burglary and sexual assault that occurred Saturday night.
A 31 year old female reported that at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening she was followed by a dark Hyundai or Pontiac Grand Am after leaving a business in the 1000 block of North University Drive. The vehicle was occupied by two Hispanic males. After driving for several minutes, the victim stated that the vehicle was no longer following her.
The victim then went to a residence in the 1600 block of Cardinal. Approximately 30 minutes later, the victim went back to her vehicle and the suspects that had been following her drove up. The two suspects exited the vehicle and forced their way into the residence. One of the suspects restrained the victim while the other sexually assaulted her. The suspects then fled the area.
Suspect #1 is described as a Hispanic male, 5’6” tall, stocky build, last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark grey shirt. Suspect # 2 is described as Hispanic male, 6’3” tall, slender build, last seen wearing dark clothing. Both suspects were wearing panty hose over their heads.

On 4-23-2011 an Officer on Bicycle Patrol observed several marking of graffiti inside the Hunts Woods Recreation Trails. There are no suspects.
On 4-22-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 4-13-2011 his unsecure bicycle was stolen in lot 43. The complainant also stated on 4-22-2011 he located his bicycle locked to the bicycle rack at Steen Hall and he did not place the bicycle there. There are no suspects.
On 4-21-2011 an Officer was dispatched to lot 18 in reference to Hit and Run. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 4-21-2011 his unattended vehicle was damaged in lot 18. There are no suspects.
On 4-20-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 4-20-2011 her unattended cell phone was stolen at the Baker Patillo Student Center. There are no suspects.
On 4-20-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 4-20-2011 items were removed from his unsecured vehicle in the Wilson Parking Garage. There are no suspects.
On 4-20-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant who advised on 4-19-2011 his unattended cell phone was stolen at the Intramural Field. There are no suspects.

Currently there are no properties for sale along the red brick streets; however the City of Nacogdoches Main Street Program encourages interested parties to visit with their staff about the possibility of someday owning property in the historic district. Approximately seven vacant buildings sit uninhabitable downtown, totaling more than 80,000 square feet. “The task force has been looking closely at those numbers, and coming up with creative ways to combat them is their number one goal,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “It is frustrating to consistently receive calls from people all over the state interested in purchasing property downtown, and have nothing to offer them, yet we still have a huge vacant building problem downtown.”

The Downtown Property Showcase begins at the Visitor’s Center, 200 E. Main Street. Spec sheets, maps, and historic district benefit sheets will be available for everyone to begin their tour. Attendees can start the tour on their own, or be guided by a staff person. Representatives from the Small Business Development Center, Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation, and city staffers who can answer historic preservation and building code questions will be on site to lend their expertise to everyone in attendance.

The Symphonic and University Bands of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert, “Journeys,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
“The program will take the audience on a journey through a large part of the ‘sound-spectrum offered by wind bands,” said Brett A. Richardson, SFA assistant director of bands and the Symphonic Band’s conductor.
Under the direction of David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands, and Corey Daniel, graduate student from Pineville, La., the University Band will open the concert with Richard Saucedo’s “Triumphant Fanfare.”
The band will then present Douglas Akey’s “The Wayfarer’s Journey,” a new piece that captures “a journey through life’s trials and tribulations to a final place of peace and rest,” explained Daniel.
The first half of the program will conclude with William Latham’s transcription of J.S. Bach’s “Three Chorale Preludes” and John Philip Sousa’s “Washington Post.”
Brett A. Richardson, SFA assistant director of bands, will conduct the Symphonic Band’s opening number, David Biedenbender’s “Luminescence” and then pass the baton to Catherine Conrad, graduate students from Granbury, who will conduct Sousa’s “Manhattan Beach” march.
Chris Bailey, SFA alumnus and director of bands at James E. Taylor High School in Katy, will lead the Symphonic Band in presenting the hymn “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.”
The concert will close with Frank Ticheli’s “Vesuvius,” a work that Richardson says “captures the pure fear and terrible power of the volcanic eruption that destroyed the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D.”
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.

The City of Nacogdoches Main Street Program and the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation are gearing up for the first ever “Downtown Property Showcase” set for Tuesday, April 26th from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in historic downtown Nacogdoches. Anyone who has ever thought or dreamed of possibly opening up a business on the red brick streets of historic downtown Nacogdoches are encouraged to attend.
Everyone’s first stop on the showcase should be the Visitor’s Center, 200 E. Main Street. Representatives from the Small Business Development Center, Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation, and city staffers who can answer historic preservation and building code questions will be on site to lend their expertise to everyone in attendance. Detailed spec sheets will also be available, as well as detailed lists of the many benefits available to tenants and property owners who reside in the downtown historic district. Maps will be distributed inside the visitor’s center showcasing the properties available for viewing that evening. Attendees can opt to tour the properties on their own, or be guided by a staff person. Hor’s de oeuvres will be served as well.
“Our vacant building task force has been trying to come up with creative ways to combat our vacant buildings downtown, and what better way than to showcase our available properties and our successful downtown businesses,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “We currently have approximately 95,000 square feet of vacant property downtown, of which only about 15,000 is available for tenants. That is a serious issue that this task force was designed to tackle.” Several properties that are available for lease will be showcased and open for tours; as well as several current successful businesses. “We are lucky to have long standing successful businesses downtown, many thanks to several of those owners who have agreed to showcase what they have done, and be available that evening to answer questions from potential business owners,” said O’Brien.

The redistricting committee had come up with a map that drastically changed our district. Folks, Plan H166 will be introduced as an amendment to HB 150, the map passed by the committee. Plan H166 in a better drawn map, especially for Nacogdoches! (Note that HB155 as referred to on the video is NOW Plan H166)

Please call your State Representative and ask them to not vote for the house map passed out of the redistricting committee and to vote for the new map as an amendment on the House floor on Wedensday. Reference the Nixon “Plan H166.” As of today the vote will be on Wedensday April 27th, this is an updated date from the previous email. Plan H166 will be introduced as an amendment to HB 150, the map passed by the committee.
Time is of the essence here, the House will adjourn this afternoon and all of the Representatives will return home to their districts for Easter weekend.

Basic share of produce is only $50 every two weeks, and varies between 15 and 30 pounds, depending on what is included in that weeks’ delivery. Typically, during summer especially, it’s closer to the 30 pound range. Produce portions are generally reasonable – one or two lettuces, 2.5 pounds of apples/bananas, etc.
There is a $25 annual membership fee (held for the first three weeks during your “trial run” to make sure you are happy with everything), and a $12 bin fee (non-refundable) to carry your produce in.
Free range yard eggs are available at $3.00 per dozen, or $4.50 for an 18 count. (Available now.)
