On 5-6-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the Business Office in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 1-10-2011 and 4-28-2011 a subject paid their SFA account with numerous insufficient checks. There is one suspect.

Officials from the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) will kick-off the “Bring it Home to Nacogdoches” campaign at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 at the Visitor’s Center downtown.
The “Bring it Home to Nacogdoches” campaign is an opportunity for local business leaders and community members to help promote Nacogdoches as a meeting destination. The campaign will concentrate not only on trade association meetings but also hobby groups, fraternal organizations, alumni organizations, and church groups.
The purpose of the campaign is to help Nacogdoches by stimulating the local economy by generating economic impact in the form of traveler expenditures and local tax revenue, supporting local businesses that cater to the hospitality industry and by promoting Nacogdoches as a premier destination: affordable, safe and friendly, great attractions, museums, restaurants and hotels.
“We are really excited to launch this campaign to our local community and hope to increase awareness of all the great complimentary meeting planning services available through the CVB,” said Sherri Skeeters, assistant director for the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“We are also excited to announce that local citizens that bring their group to Nacogdoches, have a chance of receiving a cash incentive,” she said.
Tourism pumps more than $70 million in direct spending into Nacogdoches County each year. Visitor spending supports 1,200 jobs in Nacogdoches County with earnings of more than $17.6 million. Without the local, state and federal taxes generated by the Texas travel industry, each household in Texas would have to pay $995 in additional taxes.
Bringing visitors and meetings to Nacogdoches generates tourism dollars that will benefit our local economy. “If more local leaders encourage their groups to consider and book Nacogdoches, the ‘Bring it Home to Nacogdoches’ campaign can have a real impact for our community,” Skeeters said.

The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art recognized the 2011-2012 art scholarship recipients and the winners of the “28th Annual Art Alliance Spring Show” during the exhibition’s recent opening.
“TEXAS NATIONAL 2011” juror James Drake selected 40 works from the more than 130 entries to the exhibition and also chose the show’s three winners and three Honorable Mentions. Cash prizes ranged from $75 to $300.

Honorable Mentions were given to Lufkin graduate student Le’Anne Alexander for “Pansy Thielaviopsis” and “Reverse Pansy Thielaviopsis”; Nacogdoches senior Mandy Clay for “Slaughter the Shotgun Wedding Slayer”; and Nacogdoches senior Emilie Gaultier for “Choice.”
Neal Cox, assistant professor of art and chair of the School of Art Scholarship Committee, announced the 16 recipients of the 2011-2012 art scholarships.
Daniel Baugh won the Stephen Weeks Art Scholarship; Joy Fuller, the Karl Schlicher Award for the Outstanding Graduate in Art, 2010-11; Emily Graves, the Brian LaBarbera Memorial Art Scholarship; Kelly Heasty, the Ed and Gwen Cole Dean’s Award in Art; and Jeremiah Kelly, the Elsie Arscott Art Scholarship.
Other recipients are Brooke Kocian, the Simpson-Miller Art Scholarship; Eneida Marie Santiago, the John and Doris Daniel Art Scholarship; Heather Wobbe, the Melba Cranford Art Scholarship; and Emily Yeats, the Fouts Art Scholarship.

Earnest Harvey Pitts
A graveside service for Mr. Earnest Harvey Pitts, 77, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:00 am at Gravel Ridge Cemetery with Bro. Douglas Short officiating.
Mr. Pitts was born on December 24, 1933 in Alto, Texas to the late Barney and Virgie Collins Pitts. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Nacogdoches.
Harvey was raised in Alazan, Texas. He loved to garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was also an avid fisherman, trotlining and hand fishing. Harvey had been part of a small band in his younger days, playing guitar and singing. He liked to play dominoes with his friends, loved his children and grandchildren and had worked for Sweetser Logging, cutting and hauling logs, but retired from Continental Flange in Nacogdoches when he was no longer able to work.
Harvey is survived by four daughters, Carol Snider, Patricia Lee, Dorothy Leona Beaumont and husband, Marvin Hancock all of Nacogdoches and Dana Pace and husband, Ronnie of Mt. Enterprise; two sisters, Mattie Pitts Sweetser and Madaliene Pitts Crawford both of Nacogdoches; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and good friends.
In addition to his parents Barney and Virgie Pitts he is preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Pitts and two brothers, J.T. Pitts and Ervin “Brother” Pitts.
Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Jessie Beaumont, Jason Lee, Lynn Lee, Thomas Sluterbeck and Lowell Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Pace, Marvin Hancock, Terry Hall, Ronnie Arriola, Johnny Ellis and Walter “Cookie” Sanchez.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Pitts honor to the American Cancer Society, 3623 Buckingham, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
Earl W. Bradford
Earl W. Bradford was born February 18, 1928, in Marshall, Texas, the son of John Robert and Leila Solomon Bradford. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
After graduation from Marshall High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served eight years. He met Erlene Donahoe while attending East Texas Baptist College and they were married on April 17, 1949. They moved to Nacogdoches in 1960 where he owned and managed several local retail establishments in and around Nacogdoches, including J. B. White Department Store, Brad-Morr Fabrics and Security National Bank (now Regions Financial). A past President of the Lions Club, he was active in many community projects.
After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, playing 42 and bridge and spending time with his family and friends. Always with a practical joke or humorous story to tell, he brightened the lives of all he touched.
Earl is survived by his wife, Erlene; one sister, Gwendolyn Ross of Shreveport, La.; four sons, Brad and Eve Vaughn of Port Bolivar, Texas, Keith and Sherrie and Kevin and Angela, all of Nacogdoches, and Eric and Holly of Porter Texas; eight grandchildren, Matthew Bradford and wife Rashay, Joshua Bradford, Ashley Sosa , Jeremy Peake, Alyssa Bradford, Anakin Bradford, Emily Bradford, and Kaleb Bradford; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John Robert (Bobby) and Howard Edward (Eddie) Bradford.
Pall bearers will be grandsons Matthew and Joshua Bradford and cherished friends Ken Wood, Bob Dunn, Chuck Cheek, Raymond Wiggins, Carroll Gresham, and Dr. Shakoor Awan.
He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, and in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Calvary Baptist Church of Nacogdoches Building Fund, or charity of your choice.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 3732 N.E. Stallings Dr. in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf, 5400 North Street.

Tiffany Margina Anderson
Funeral service for Tiffany Margina Anderson-Humphreys, 27, of Etoile, Texas will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home with Sister Evone Rice, Sonny Miller and Ben Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Tiffany was born on September 28, 1983, in Nacogdoches, Texas to Charles Wayne Anderson and Shirley Emerson Anderson Humbpreys. She passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Etoile, Texas.
Visitation with Tiffany’s family will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
