Earnest Harvey Pitts

     A graveside service for Mr. Earnest Harvey Pitts, 77, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:00 am at Gravel Ridge Cemetery with Bro. Douglas Short officiating.

     Mr. Pitts was born on December 24, 1933 in Alto, Texas to the late Barney and Virgie Collins Pitts. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Nacogdoches.

     Harvey was raised in Alazan, Texas. He loved to garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was also an avid fisherman, trotlining and hand fishing. Harvey had been part of a small band in his younger days, playing guitar and singing. He liked to play dominoes with his friends, loved his children and grandchildren and had worked for Sweetser Logging, cutting and hauling logs, but retired from Continental Flange in Nacogdoches when he was no longer able to work.

     Harvey is survived by four daughters, Carol Snider, Patricia Lee, Dorothy Leona Beaumont and husband, Marvin Hancock all of Nacogdoches and Dana Pace and husband, Ronnie of Mt. Enterprise; two sisters, Mattie Pitts Sweetser and Madaliene Pitts Crawford both of Nacogdoches; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and good friends.

     In addition to his parents Barney and Virgie Pitts he is preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Pitts and two brothers, J.T. Pitts and Ervin “Brother” Pitts.

     Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Jessie Beaumont, Jason Lee, Lynn Lee, Thomas Sluterbeck and Lowell Johnson.

     Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Pace, Marvin Hancock, Terry Hall, Ronnie Arriola, Johnny Ellis and Walter “Cookie” Sanchez.

     Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Pitts honor to the American Cancer Society, 3623 Buckingham, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.

     Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
