     Funeral service for Mrs. Margie L. Jackson, 80, of Mt. Enterprise, Texas will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 10:00 am at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Grounds and Bro. Ken Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Old Prospect Cemetery.

     Mrs. Jackson was born on January 25, 1931, in Irving, Texas to the late Sidney George and Carrie Bell Jerdon Ranft. She passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in Mt. Enterprise, Texas.

     Vistation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, from 6-8 pm at Laird Funeral Home.

     Funeral service for Mrs. Mattie Belle Patterson Hayden, 95, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mattie Belle Patterson Hayden

     Mrs. Hayden was born on October 14, 1915 in Swift, Texas to Thomas Taylor Patterson and Rosa Belle Flores Patterson. She passed away peacefully in Nacogdoches, Texas on July 25, 2011 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

     Mattie Belle moved to Nacogdoches when she was four years old, and remained in Nacogdoches the rest of her life. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1932. Mattie was married to Clarence Leslie Hayden for 36 years before he passed away. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Nacogdoches. She was very talented at sewing and crocheting, and made many dresses for her four daughters throughout their school years. Mattie loved to work in her yard, especially raking leaves in the fall, and was also known to have quite a green thumb. She enjoyed traveling in her later years and never missed a grandchild’s birth. Mattie Belle loved her family, and truly loved spending time with all her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family.

     Mattie Belle is survived by four children, O.B. Hayden and wife, Millie, of Kaneohe, HI; Lynda Sue Ferry of Nacogdoches, TX; Patsy Rose Jacobs and husband, Mike, of Moscow, TX; and Jacqueline Ruth Hickman and husband, Bill, of Woden, TX, thirteen grandchildren, April Tipton, Kimberly Clark, Melanie Toloumu, Marcus Hayden, Erin Hayden, Eric Ferry, Amy Jacobs, Jack Jacobs, Joy Jacobs, John Jacobs, Jennifer McElroy, Christopher Sharp, and Leslie Jordan, and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Leslie Hayden; three brothers, Oscar, Dewey, and Harlon Patterson; one sister, Lois Patterson Parker; and one daughter, Lois Marie Clark.

     The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Richard Baker and the staff at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for the special care that Mattie Belle received.

     Music will be provided by Mr. Clayton Dyess at the service.

     Pallbearers will be family members.

     Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.

     A memorial service for Mr. John David “JD” Cook, 73, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 11:00 am at Perritte Memorial Methodist Church with Pastor Josh Hale officiating.

     Mr. Cook was born on December 14, 1937, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Odis Vernon and Ayleti Muckleroy Cook. He passed away on July 23, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

     JD was born at home on Shawnee Road in Nacogdoches. He attended Central Elementary, Thomas J. Rusk Junior High School and graduated from Nacogdoches High School where he was a proud member of the NHS Class of 1956. John worked as a construction project manager, farmer, and longhaul truck driver just to name a few. He was the first project manager constructing the first Salt Salinization Plant in Abudabi, Saudi Arabia. He and other contractors built this city from the ground up. During his construction career he built high rise buildings all over the USA, Europe and the Middle East. He lived and worked in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for seven years. After returning to the US he lived in Los Angeles, California to work for HE Beck Construction. He worked on such projects as The Pacific Design Center (known as The Blue Whale) and other high rise buildings in various cities all across the United States.

     After retiring from construction in 1991, JD moved back to Nacogdoches and decided to become a farmer. He purchased and farmed on his grandfather Hollis Muckleroy’s property on the Woden Road until 2004. It was then that he decided to become an owner/operator of Bumpkin Truckin’ as a truck driver with his wife Peggy Jane Barfield Cook, mainly hauling for Cargill Meat Logistics Solutions. JD and his wife, PeggyJane, saw the United States from one end to the other and top to bottom while working as truck drivers. God Bless The USA.

     JD is survived by his wife of almost 7 years, PeggyJane Barfield Cook of Nacogdoches; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Cook Thomas and husband, Paul of Nacogdoches; a son, John David Cook, II, of Dallas; step-daughter, Rhonda Annette Radley of Pasadena; step-son, Ros Spencer Radley and wife, Courtney of Houston; one sister, Ruth Haynes of Ratcliff; six grandchildren, Jeremy Thomas of Oklahoma, Brian Cole Thomas of Nacogdoches, Eric Anthony Sitton and April Nicole Sitton of Pasadena, Corinn Elena Radley and Vanessa Jordan Radley of Houston in addition to many cousins, nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Wanda Mae Cook.

     Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 29, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
