Obituary: William Dane Parker

Obituary: Dean Quankenbush
Dean Henry Quackenbush, of Mt. Enterprise, Texas passed from this earth at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, Nacogdoches, Texas on July 27, 2011. He was born in McPherson, Kansas on February 5, 1932 and was a Presbyterian. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1950, and served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a retired pipeline inspector, having worked in many parts of the country during his long career. He was a member of the American Legion Post 195 in Henderson and a past member of Post 24 in McPherson, Kansas.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Landon and Eula Quackenbush and his brother, Dale. He is survived by his wife, Delorese “Dee” Quackenbush, of Mt. Enterprise; step-son, Alan Duncan and wife, Molly; granddaughters, Miranda and Alana Duncan all of Tyler, Texas; sister-in-law, Irma Quakenbush of Seattle, Wahington; three nieces and a host of friends and other family.
At his request, he will be cremated and no services are scheduled. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Wide Variety of Fine Cheeses available this Saturday at the Market
Dr Gregory will be back this Saturday with baffles for vines, starter plants (asparagus, red cardinal vines, red spider lilies, Mexican petunias, cherry tomatoes & Rutgers tomatoes) and small trees (boxwood & red bud). Dr Gregory will also have home made goat cheese from Cleveland, smoked Gouda and other artisan cheeses from Waco, artisan Gouda cheese from Farwell, Texas, artisan cheddar cheeses (jalapeno, sharp cheddar and caraway) from Dublin, Texas and cheeses from the Haystack Goat Cheese Company including goat cheese gouda, chevre, camembert and red cloud.

The Nacogdoches Farmers’ Market, located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets, is open from 8 a.m. until noon or later every Saturday morning and on Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 6 p.m. If the market parking lot is full, additional parking is available in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex parking lot.

Public input for I-69, “Driven by Texans” needed
The Texas Department of Transportation’s Segment Committees, are seeking public input on the development of the proposed interstate system. I-69 is a proposed national interstate system that will be developed as a series of improvements using existing highways, including US Highway 59, as much as possible and seeks to utilize citizen input throughout the process. Five groups of citizens have been making recommendations on how the interstate could best be developed, each segment committee, has its own set of special needs and challenges. Projects identified by the segment committees are merely conceptual at this point, and public input is needed as the process continues. The I-69 Segment One Committee, which stretches from Texarkana to Lufkin, includes Nacogdoches County Judge, Joe English and City of Nacogdoches City Manager, Jim Jeffers.
There is no current funding to build I-69, however there is a possibility of getting a section of I-69 built in Texas soon. Designating existing suitable freeway sections as I-69 will establish the interstate in Texas. From there, using the citizen’s plan for I-69, TXDOT and state leaders can begin to identify funding sources to continue improvements on additional sections of I-69. TXDOT’s motto for I-69 is “Driven by Texas,” since the concept requires citizen involvement in the decision making process.
“Since I-69 will be Driven by Texans, the residents of Nacogdoches’ input is crucial in this process; at both the beginning stages and later down the road,” said City Manager Jim Jeffers, “we highly encourage everyone to let their voice be heard.”

Obituary: James Robert Nutt 1932 – 2011
A funeral service for James Robert Nutt will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 3:00 pm at Cason Monk Metcalf Sunset Chapel on 5400 North Street Nacogdoches, Texas. Reverend John Gibson of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge, Arkansas will be officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Navy.
James Robert Nutt
James R. Nutt, 79, of College Station died Wednesday, July 27, 2011. He was born in Tenaha, Texas, on July 7, 1932 to parents Robert Trilby Nutt and Audrey Jane Bridwell.
After high school, James served in the United States Navy becoming a photographer documenting events at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He then earned a degree in chemistry with a minor in math from Stephen F. Austin State University. Upon graduation he started work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Houston. He retired in 1994, and he was very proud of his 37 years of service with the company. James enjoyed photography, reading, writing, fishing, carving, drawing, crossword puzzles, growing daylilies, and being with his large family. He was gentle, soft-spoken and lived for his family, especially enjoying visits from the grandchildren. James will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all of those blessed to know him.
James’ survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie of College Station; sons, Robert Nutt and wife Janice of Florida, Michael Trilby and wife Andrea of Switzerland, Jason Nutt and wife DeeDee of Austin; son-in-law, Phillip Martin of Houston; daughters, Cathy Nutt and husband Harry Reed of Huntington, Gina Nutt of Houston, Stacey Gibson and husband John of Arkansas, Tobey Lindsey and husband Lance of Bryan; sister Patsy Wade and husband Dwight of Woden; grand-sons, Patrick Nutt of Ohio, Gene Martin of New Mexico, Brandon Johnson of Kansas, Jevon and Lucas Trilby of Switzerland, Callen and Miles Nutt of Austin, Hunter Lindsey of Jacksboro, James and Braxton Lindsey of Bryan; grand-daughters, Ashley Simms of Houston, Trilby and Audrey Gibson of Arkansas, Lilly Nutt of Austin; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tuesday July 26, 2011 – Thursday July 28, 2011
On 7-25-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Landing in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 7-15-2011 and 7-27-2011 unknown person stole copper from two mechanical closets at Lumberjack Landing. There are no suspects.
On 7-26-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Hit and Run. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 7-26-2011 her unattended vehicle was damaged in the Aikman Parking Garage. There are no suspects.
Monday July 25, 2011 – Tuesday July 26, 2011
On 7-25-2011 an Officer observed a suspicious person throwing a bicycle in the dumpster behind Hall 16. The Officer made contact with the subject who was then attempting to cut a lock on a bicycle and stated that he was planning on stealing the bicycle. The Officer discovered that the subject also had warrants out of Nacogdoches Police Department. The subject was issued a citation for attempted theft and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.

On 7-20-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Griffith Hall in reference to Burglary of a Habitation. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 7-20-2011 money was stolen from her unsecured residence at Griffith Hall. There are no suspects.
