(Republican): November 18 Update
Friends and Fellow Republicans:
Please spread the word about the upcoming Straw Poll event! We need to have a BIG turnout and give people a chance to participate. This will also show how the active voters are leaning in each of the races below.
Candidates that will be voted on will have to have previously publically announced that they are definitely running for an office below and have been actively campaigning for that office.

City of Nacogdoches to open “Warming Center,” for residents
The City of Nacogdoches is opening the doors to the C.L. Simon Recreation Center and Library, 1112 North Street, as a “Warming Center” for the residents of East Wood Terrace, a local apartment complex. 300 plus residents are expected to be without heat over-night due to a natural gas leak that is currently being repaired. Property owners discovered the leak earlier in the week and they have been diligently trying to make the necessary repairs to the line. During the repair process additional issues with the water line have been found and property owners are working to correct those issues as well.
The National Weather Service is predicting that temperatures will drop below freezing tonight. The warming center will be open as an overnight shelter for residents of the apartment complex. “With such a large number of temporarily displaced citizens, we felt it was important to provide the warming center as a safe, warm, shelter for the residents to stay the night,” said Fire Chief Keith Kiplinger.
Eastwood Terrace residents can begin checking in to the temporary shelter which is only scheduled to be open for one night, anytime.

This Saturday at the Farmer’s Market…
Don’t forget to pick up your unshelled pinto beans, beets with greens, carrots, sugar snap peas, and peanuts this weekend at the farmer’s market.
Things to look for: baked goods (breads, cakes, cookies & pies), candles, canned goods (wild-picked jams & jellies including may haw, blackberry, blueberry, muscatine and wild plum as well as jams, marmalades, preserves, chow-chow, pickled vegetables, salsas & relishes), ceramics, artisan Texas cheeses, corn meal, free-range eggs, herbs (basil, coriander, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary & thyme), dried herbs, local raw honey, jewelry, plants (house plants, bedding plants, trees & whips), smoothies, soaps (lye and herbal), tamales, vinegars and fruit wines. LOCAL PRODUCE: green beans, little green beans, yellow wax beans, frozen shelled beans (butter, baby Lima & pinto), cucumbers, greens (collard, kale, mustard, spinach, Swiss chard & turnip), mixed lettuce, frozen okra, onions (red, yellow & white), fresh shelled peas (black-eyed, lady cream, zipper cream, brown Crowder & purple hull), frozen peas (black eye, zipper cream, brown Crowder & purple hull), pecans (cracked, shelled & unshelled), peppers (Anaheim, banana, Bell & others), new potatoes, small pumpkins, squash (acorn, banana, butternut, French, kushaw, patti pan, pinatta, spaghetti, Turk’s turban, Winter, yellow, zephyr, green zucchini & yellow zucchini), sweet potatoes, radishes, tomatoes (green & slicer), turnips and watermelons (all-sweet and jubilee).

The Nacogdoches Farmers’ Market, located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets, is open from 8 a.m. until noon or later every Saturday morning. If the market parking lot is full, additional parking is available in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex parking lot. The Nacogdoches Farmer’s Market will host a special Pre-Thanksgiving market on Wednesday, November 23 from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Please note that the Farmer’s Market is a “Smoke Free” facility for the health of our customers and vendors.
