November 18 – November 21: SFA Crime Log
Friday November 18, 2011 – Monday November 21, 2011
On 11/18/ 2011 an officer was dispatched to the Griffith Fine Arts building in reference to harassing phone calls. The officer made contact with the complainant who advised that he had received harassing calls from an unknown person. There are no suspects.
On 11/18/2011 while on patrol an officer observed three males sitting in a secluded area near the back of the HPE Building. While the officer was identifying the subjects, one of the subjects ran from the officer. The subject was located and places under arrest and during a search incident to the arrest, the officer found a bag of marijuana in his possession. Another subject was found to be a juvenile and in possession of drug paraphernalia. All three subjects received a criminal trespass warning for Stephen F. Austin University. The adult subject was transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail and the juvenile will be referred to Juvenile Probation. There are two suspects.
On 11/18/2011 an officer was dispatched to a damaged exit sign in Lumberjack Village 2. There are no suspects.
On 11/19/2011 an officer was dispatched to 505 E. Starr Ave. in reference to a theft. The officer arrived and observed that a flag had been removed from a pole. There are no suspects.
On 11/20/2011 officers were dispatched to the Village Community Center Building in reference to a disturbance. Both subjects admitted that they were involved in mutual combat. Neither one wanted to pursue charges. There are two suspects.
On 11/20/2011 an officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival it was found that the complainant and her ex-boyfriend had an argument and an assault had occurred. The victim did not wish to pursue criminal charges. There is one suspect.
On 11/21/2011, an officer was dispatched to the UPD lobby in reference to a criminal mischief. The officer made contact with the complainant, who stated that her car had been keyed sometime between 5:00pm and 10:00pm on 11/21/2011 in Lot 8 East. There are no suspects.

County Constable Office Precinct 4 seized methamphetamine laboratory and several grams of methamphetamine

On 11-20-2011 the Nacogdoches County Constable Office Precinct 4 executed a search warrant on Cr. 513 in Nacogdoches County that resulted in the seizure of a methamphetamine laboratory and several grams of methamphetamine were also found. Constable Bridges stated that his office has had an ongoing investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine for the last month. Constable Bridges stated that we were able to establish probable cause for a search and arrest warrants on two subjects that were the target of this investigation.

Early Sunday morning around 2 am Deputy Constables initiated the execution of the warrant. Both subjects, Robin Riggs and Danielle Smith were found inside of the residence and were arrested. A search of the residence revealed several bottles that contained chemicals that were being used to manufacture methamphetamine. Bridges stated that several different types of chemicals and other drug paraphernalia were also found inside of the residence. Deputies also located 5 grams of methamphetamine along with digital scales, which were marked and ready to be distributed.
Constable Bridges stated that both subjects were using what is commonly referred to as the shake and bake method of producing methamphetamine. There were a total of five plastic bottles that were located at the residence that contained anhydrous and ammonia inside of the bottles that they were using to cook methamphetamine with. Bridges stated this method of producing methamphetamine is becoming increasing popular, as it is more easily to conceal and produce methamphetamine with. Other chemicals that are used to produce methamphetamine were also found inside of the residence. DLS hazmat service responded to the scene and assisted with the cleanup and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
During the course of the investigation, Constable Bridges stated that his office was able to conducted undercover purchases of methamphetamine from both subjects. Both Danielle Smith 38 years of age and Robin Riggs 53 years of age both from Nacogdoches Texas were arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail. Both Subjects were charged with intent to manufacture a controlled substance felony 1st degree, Possession of a controlled substance 2nd felony and Delivery of a controlled substance, State Jail Felony. Smith was out on bond awaiting trial on felony Drug charges before she was arrested again Sunday morning. Riggs is currently serving a parole sentence through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Division until the year 2026 for Drug Charges.

Travis Austin Bailey found not guilty of felony sexual assault
On Nov. 16, 2011, a Nacogdoches County jury found Travis Austin Bailey not guilty of felony sexual assault after a two and a half day trial in the 145th District Court. The verdict was reached following less than an hour of deliberation.
The State’s evidence began with the complaining witness describing a violent assault, followed by a family member who testified in support of the complaining witness’ account. The State ended with the testimonies of law enforcement representatives and a nurse who treated the complaining witness.
Defense attorney John Boundy then presented witnesses and documents which challenged the complaining witness’ credibility and story. Boundy additionally pointed out a lack of physical evidence collected by both law enforcement and medical care providers to connect Bailey to the allegation.
Boundy offered an explanation as to why the complaining witness delayed reporting the alleged incident along with not producing relevant evidence, all of which hindered the criminal investigation. Boundy’s recount included the complaining witness was still seeing Bailey, and after been caught by her fiancé, she need to create a false story.
However, when law enforcement got involved, Boundy theorized the complaining witness delayed reporting the incident to keep any evidence from being available to prosecute Bailey. The evidence showed she still was having social contact with, contrary to earlier testimony, Boundy said.
“While respecting the province of jury deliberation, any one of these areas of inquiry, or any combination thereof, could have been a source of reasonable doubt,” Boundy said. “The trial was hotly contested and hard fought, and in the end, as it should be in our system of criminal justice, the final word came from the people; the jury.”

Obituary: Mr. William “Bill Tom” T. Weaver , Sr.
Mr. William “Bill Tom” T. Weaver , Sr., 77, passed away on November 20, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born in Nacogdoches to parents, Samuel Claiborn Weaver and Mary Ella Humphreys on April 10, 1934. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennie Weaver.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:00 am Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Rev. John Withem officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

On 11-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to
Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who
advised between 11-16-2011 and 11-17-2011 her purse was stolen from her
unsecure residence at Steen Hall. There are no suspects.
Wednesday November 16, 2011 – Thursday November 17, 2011
On 11-16-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the
lobby of UPD in reference to a Hit and Run. Upon
arrival the Officer made contact with the
complainant, who advised on 11-16-2011 her
attended vehicle was damaged in lot 42 east. There is one suspect.
Tuesday November 15, 2011 – Wednesday November 16, 2011
On 11-15-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 16 in reference to Burglary of a Habitation.
Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised
between 11-14-2011 and 11-15-2011 his wallet was stolen from his secure residence at Hall 16.
There are no suspects.
Monday November 14, 2011 – Tuesday November 15, 2011
On 11-15-2011 while on patrol an Officer observed two parking signs in
lot 10 had been pushed over. There are no suspects.
On 11-14-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Mays Hall in reference to
Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who
advised on 11-14-2011 his unattended cell phone was stolen at the
Miller Science Building. There are no suspects.
