February 11 – February 17: SFA Crime Log

On 2-16-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Library in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 2-15-2012 and 2-16-2012 an unknown person(s) defecated on the floor in the fourth floor men’s restroom in Steen Library. There are no suspects.

Thursday February 16, 2012 – Friday February 17, 2012

On 2-16-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Landing in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-16-2012 his unsecure bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at Lumberjack Landing. There are no suspects.

On 2-16-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Fraudulent Use of Identifying Information. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised that an unknown person(s) used identifying information to apply for a student loan. There are no suspects.

Wednesday February 15, 2012 – Thursday February 16, 2012

On 2-15-2012 an Officer was dispatched to University Woods Apartments in reference to a drug complaint. Upon arrival the Officer located a subject inside a residence in possession of marihuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. There is one suspect.

On 2-15-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the Miller Science Building in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-15-2012 her unattended iPhone was stolen from the restroom at the Miller Science Building. There are no suspects.

Tuesday February 14, 2012 – Wednesday February 15, 2012

On 2-14-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 2-4-2012 and 2-14-2012 his secure bicycle was removed from the bike rack at Wisely Hall. There are no suspects.

SFA Girl Scout STEM Day

    Stephen F. Austin State University’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Research and Learning Center will host its second annual “SFA Girl Scout STEM Day!” for regional Girl Scout troops on Saturday, Feb. 18. Approximately 150 Girl Scouts in kindergarten through 5th grade are expected to attend. They will participate in four different sessions doing fun learning activities in the subject areas of geology, chemistry, physics and computer science.

    The sessions have been designed by SFA professors Dr. Tom Callaway (physics), Dr. Michele Harris (chemistry), Dr. Deborah Dunn (computer science), Mrs. Liz Hutchinson (computer science) and Dr. Melinda Faulkner (geology). The event is organized by Dr. Jeremy Becnel (mathematics) and Girl Scouts’ Nacogdoches area Service Unit Manager Kesha Becnel. The sessions will be run by SFA undergraduate and graduate students from various STEM departments.

    The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Math Building, Room 101, and then the participants will disperse to their activities on the second floor of the Math Building. The event will end at 4:30 p.m.
