     Mr. Darvin Lee “Darv” Haupert, 77, died suddenly in his home in Nacogdoches on March 31, 2012. He was loved by and will be remembered by many.

     He was born on July 9, 1934, in Huntington, Indiana to Mildred and Kenneth Haupert. He graduated from Huntington High School where he was a top student and a star athlete. After high school he earned a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University in 1956. Following his graduation from Purdue he served four years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy where he was in charge of the construction of military housing. Stationed in Honolulu, he fell in live with Hawaii. Following a blind date in 1958 he also fell in love with Lorraine Jensen. He and Lori were married the following year in Seattle and they would have been married for 52 years and have two children.

     After military service Darv and Lori remained in Honolulu where he worked as a civil engineer, first for the Bishop Estate and then for 26 years with the Hawaiian Telephone Company. He served as a deacon in the Central Union Church in downtown Honolulu.

     Following his retirement from the telephone company he and Lori moved to North Manchester, Indiana for four years to help care for his mother, after which they moved in 1996 to Nacogdoches, Texas. There Darv very much enjoyed living close to his daughter Diane and her three sons.

     Friendly and outgoing, Darv took great joy in meeting new people and making new friends. He actively participated in Rotary International for several decades, first with the Waikiki Club in Honolulu and then with the Fredonia Club in Nacogdoches. He loved his morning coffee groups here in Nacogdoches. A keen mind and sharp wit, Darv never lost his enthusiasm for learning new things or his enjoyment in talking with others about the issues of the day. A crossword puzzle and a Sudoku game were part of his daily routine and he enjoyed playing bridge. He was an avid sports fan and remained always loyal to his Purdue Boilermakers. He greatly loved his wife, his daughter and son, and his five grandchildren.

     Darv was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Lois Snover and Barbara Tyson.

     He is survived by his wife Lorraine; his daughter, Diane Haupert-Brister of Nacogdoches, Texas; his son, Jeffrey Haupert and wife Dr. Lona Sasser-Haupert of Parkland, Florida; his grandchildren, Joshua Brister, Jeffrey Brister and Jesse Brister of Nacogdoches and Zachary Haupert and Jenna Haupert of Parkland, Florida. He is also survived by numerous cousins and nieces and by many friends from across the country.

     The family would like to invite friends to a celebration of Darv’s life at 3222 Huntington Circle on Thursday, April 5, 2012, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
