MAGAZINE SCAM ACTIVE WITHIN THE CITY

The Nacogdoches Police Department has received several calls in reference to a credit card scam involving magazine sales.

According to NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell, several persons have lodged complaints about a door to door salesman posing to be selling magazine subscriptions. The suspect tells victims that he is selling magazines to send to soldiers deployed overseas. The suspect continues by telling the victim that he cannot take cash or check as payment, but a credit card must be used. The victim then provides the suspect with a credit card number, which is used to make unauthorized purchases.

“At this time, there are no magazine salespersons registered to operate within the city”, Sgt. Sowell said. “This suspect has been allowed inside several of the victim’s homes, and that is not a good idea”.

The suspect has been described as a white male in his 20’s, clean cut and well spoken. He was last seen driving a small black SUV.

Anyone with information on this suspect should contact the Nacogdoches Police at 559-2607.
