Obituary: Johnnie “John” H. Thomas, Jr.

Mr. Johnnie “John” H. Thomas, Jr., age 72, passed away at Nacogdoches Medical Center on Friday, January 10, 2014. He was born in Houston County, Texas on December 22, 1941 to parents Johnnie H. Thomas Sr. and Jewel Carson Thomas.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors with Bro. Freddy Shores officiating.
Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, January 13 at Cason Monk- Metcalf from 6:00 pm til 8:00 pm.
John is preceded in death by his parents; infant brothers, James Evert Thomas and Kenneth Wayne Thomas; and infant sister, Carol Sue Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Frances Vest-Thomas; daughters, Tammy Baal and husband James of Baytown, Pam Corman and husband Aubery of Nacogdoches, Milinda Monday and husband Jason of Garrison, Lisa Mozingo and husband William; grandchildren, Brandon Corman and wife Alyssa, Maelee Corman, Seth Baal, Jessica Mozingo, Eleanor Mozingo, Lauren Mozingo, Monica Monday-Stokes, Kenneth Monday, Mason Monday; brother, Harold Thomas of Livingston; sister, Betty Gersbach of Groveton; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Johnnie attended school in Lovelady, Texas. He later married the love of life at First Baptist Church in Grapeland, Texas on November 24, 1962. Soon after, he went to work for Brown and Root Welding Company at Shell Oil Company in Pasadena, Texas where he retired in 1985 to move to Nacogdoches, Texas and open his own company, Thomas Welding Sales and Service that same year.
John loved hunting, fishing woodworking, traveling and welding. His greatest passion was discussing scriptures, studying and spreading God’s word and spending time with his family.
Pallbearers will be James Baal, Aubery Corman, William Mozingo, Jr., Jason Monday, Brandon Corman and Seth Baal. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Tuesday night bible study group including Joe Biggerstaff, Keith Drewery, Wayne McLaughlin, Tom Finnegan, Tom Stinson, Jeff Braswell.
