Obituary: Otha Mae Doan

Mrs. Otha Mae Doan, age 90, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Austin House.

She was born August 10, 1923, in the Red Flat Community to parents L.E. Byrd and Annie Lanora Beaver Byrd. She grew up in Nacogdoches County, moved to Houston and lived there for a number of years before returning to Nacogdoches in 1983. She retired after several years of service with Blue Ribbon Rice Company.

Mrs. Doan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, tending her flowers, and playing 42 and Canasta.

Her survivors include her daughter, Rita Meaux of Chappel Hill; son, Donald O. Kelley and wife Pat of Bossier City, Louisiana; granddaughter, Wendy Troell and husband Carey of Leming, Texas; grandson, Sean Kelley of Pleasanton, Texas; great-grandsons, Chase Troell and Grant Troell, both of Leming, and Brent Kelley of Pleasanton; and a sister, Verlene Brandon of Garrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Doan, in 1986; and her son-in-law, Robert Meaux.

Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, with Pastor Dale Martin officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, 5127 North Street.

Visitation is planned for 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
