Obituary: Gerald Carlton Bentley

Mr. Gerald Carlton Bentley, age 67, of Chireno, Texas, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 11, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Bentley was born Sept. 19, 1945, in Chireno to parents John David Bentley and Effie Mae (Gibson) Bentley. He was a longtime resident of the Texas City area before returning to Chireno several years ago.

Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was one of the most avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

One of Gerald’s greatest pleasures was cooking barbecue for gatherings and events of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Juanita Jane (Holland) Bentley, to whom he was married Oct. 8, 1963; daughters, Tonya Patterson and David of Cushing, Sheila Bentley and Kelley of Nacogdoches, and Dianna Alexander and Donald of Texas City; son, Robbie Packard and Billie of Chireno; sisters, Vester Smith of Porter, Inez Meador of Livingston, Rachel Packard of Texas City, and Effie Barnette of Cushing; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, with Bro. Allen Cheney officiating. Interment will be at the Upper Chireno Cemetery, located off FM 95 in Chireno.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Packard, Timothy Perren, Terry Perren, Travis Alexander, Donald Alexander, and Bradley Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be David Patterson, David Bain, Eddie Holland, John Polinard, and Stephen Burns.
