Obituary: Sylvia Going McKinney

Sylvia Going McKinney, 91, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in Nacogdoches. She was born July 13, 1921 to parents James Paschal Going and Louisiana Scott Going in Oakdale, LA. A funeral service for Sylvia McKinney, 91, will be Friday, February 15, 2013, at 11:30 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Bro. John Mcguire officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Sylvia is predeceased by her parents; husband, Ray E. McKinney and daughter, JoAnne Piegsa.
She is survived by sons, Jim Turner and wife Charlotte, Ken Turner and wife Donna, Stanley McKinney and wife Beverly; daughter, Susan McDaniel and husband Gary; grandchildren, Elaine Turner, John Turner and wife Christy, Scott Hill and wife Diane, Gary Hill, Jeffery McDaniel; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Rhonda Pruitt.
Sylvia was a wonderful woman who dearly loved her husband, Ray. She was a superb cook and was proud to admit it to anyone who would listen. Sylvia enjoyed working at Hancock Fabrics and known to her family as an expert seamstress, providing many beautiful clothes for her grandchildren. She loved being surrounded by her family and in her younger years worked in a vegetable garden keeping food available for canning and sharing with her family and friends. She loved to travel, especially with Ray. Their favorite place was at Deer River, Minnesota where they would spend 5-6 weeks there year after year vacationing. She enjoyed staying intouch with her friends and family through the computer, which is so unusual for her generation. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her most.

Pallbearers will include John Turner, Jim Turner, Gary McDaniel, Jeff McDaniel, Ken Turner, and Elaine Turner.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Cason Monk Metcalf, February 15, 2013, prior to the service.
