Obituary: Robert Leon Hutchison

Robert Leon Hutchison, 83, passed away on August 25, 2012. He was born on April 12, 1929 in Niles, Michigan to Walter and Effie Coats Hutchison. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 with Rev. Anne Sermons Gillis and Rev. John Bingham officiating at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will be at New Prospect Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.

Leon was a native of Nacogdoches County, graduated from Central Heights High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He was a Certified Public Accountant for the State of Texas.

While working his way through college at Cason Monk and Company, Leon met Mary Jo Partin who was working at the candy counter at Perry Brothers. They married in 1950 and would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 27, 2012.

Leon served two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas. He worked in the oil and gas industry in the Texas Gulf Coast area before moving to Saudi Arabia to work for ARAMCO. He returned to Houston, Texas in 1972 and continued his career in oil and gas until he retired in 1984.

After he retired, Leon and Mary Jo returned to Nacogdoches. He raised cattle, flew his airplane, continued to travel, play golf, and enjoy a slower pace of life. In 1993, Leon was elected Chairman of the Nacogdoches County Party. After serving many years as Chairman, he continued to remain active in politics. He and Mary Jo were advocates of education and supported students by establishing scholarships at SFA, Nacogdoches High School and Central Heights High School.

Leon is survived by his wife Mary Jo, sons, Steven Hutchison and wife Cheryl; Stan Hutchison and wife, Deborah; and daughter Mary Helen; grandchildren Robyn Hutchison Mendez and husband Juan; Scott Hutchison and wife, Amanda; and four great grandchildren, Julianna Mendez, Katherine Hutchison, Thomas Robert Hutchison and Autumn Hutchison.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at Cason Monk on Tuesday, August 28 from 6-8 pm.
