RICK PERRY REVIEWS

In the last newsletter, we encouraged you to log on to www.MeetRickPerry.com. There you will find how Perry spent $700,000 of OUR taxes on himself (it involves a $1.85 million dollar estate on 3.25 acres), how our “economic miracle” that Perry touts was based on federal stimulus money, and other interesting items that Perry doesn’t mention in his campaign for President.

But maybe you might want to see something more balanced than our Democratic Party prospective. If so, we recommend you check the Texas Monthly article on Perry, “Less than Hero”, at www.texasmonthly.com/2011-05-01/btl.php. These statements about Perry are a part of that article:

     “…a leadership deficit.”

“…excels at consolidation and maintaining power, but not at using it to move Texas forward.”

     “…appeals to people’s fears.…”

“…(in his) race for reelection…he hid the ball on the state’s budget situation….”

“…Texas ranks dead last nationally in state spending per capita, is close to the bottom in spending per public school student, has the highest percentage of uninsured citizens (with health insurance).…” (all of these rankings BEFORE the massive cuts in the new state budget).

The article also reports on a Legislative Budget Board (a permanent joint committee of the Texas Legislature that develops budget and policy recommendations for the legislature) report that the passage of the budget Perry supported would result in “600,000 jobs lost, a $34.2 billion decrease in gross state product and a $29.8 billion decline in personal income.…”

And finally, the article points out that the state comptroller warned Perry and the Republican Legislature in 2006 that “Perry’s tax plan (a new business tax for schools) would cost the state a cumulative $10.6 billion by 2011.”

IS THIS THE ‘LEADERSHIP’ PERRY WANTS TO OFFER AS PRESIDENT?

CAN’T YOU JUST SEE THE CAMPAIGN SLOGAN: “ELECT PERRY TO LEAD US TO OUR RIGHTFUL PLACE AS A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!”
