Obituary: Dorothy Davis

     Graveside service for Dorothy Watkins Davis, 99, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 11:00 am at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, Texas with Deacon Judy Cobb officiating.

     Mrs. Davis and her twin brother, Dale were born on September 27, 1911, in Brady, Texas to the late James Alfred Watkins and Ellen Goodall Watkins. She passed away peacefully on July 6, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

     Mrs. Davis had resided in Nacogdoches since 1979, she had previously lived in Big Lake and San Angelo, Texas. She graduated from Howard Payne College in Brownwood in 1936, and taught school and coached at several small schools in that area.

     Dorothy married Bee Anthony Davis in San Angelo on May 31, 1941, and they went home to the ranch near Doole, Texas. Due to drought, they moved to Big Lake ,Texas in 1948, and started a new life. She continued to teach in the Reagan County School System and Bee became engaged in the laundry business. Following Bee’s death in 1970, she moved to San Angelo for a short time before settling in Nacogdoches to be close to her family.

     She loved her family and friends and had been a very dear friend to many people. She doted on her granddaughters, had a wonderful sense of humor, and lived life as a positive Christian. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches, was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and she enjoyed the Newcomers Club, playing bridge and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

     Dorothy is survived by her son, Wayne A. Davis and wife, Karen of Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Jana Davis Fleming and husband, Gray of Waco; three great-grandsons, Watson, Davis and Hughes Fleming of Waco; as well as numerous nieces and nephews of whom she treasured.

     In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bee Davis; two brothers, Dale and Jack Watkins; sisters, Claudene, Estelle, Willna and Mary Lee “Toosie”; and a granddaughter, Sara Davis.

     Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Cobb, Dennis Watkins, Keith Watkins, Terry Watkins, K.B. Kothman, James Caillouet, Don Whisenant and Buddy Shackelford.

     In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

     Visitation with Dorothy’s family will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
