Dr. Roy C. McNett

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 9, at 2:30 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches.

Roy was born in Gunsight, Texas, on October 20, 1920. He was the son of Royal Clyde and Nellie Myrtle McNett. He and Anna Sue Williams were married on September 21, 1941, in Wheeler County, Texas, and together they shared almost 70 years of marriage. He attended West Texas State University and the Baylor University College of Dentistry, from which he graduated with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1944.

Roy was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having served with distinction in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS CURTISS and the USS MIDWAY, as well as at duty stations in San Francisco, Bremerton, San Diego, Bethesda, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Corpus Christi, Panama, and Rota, Spain. While on the USS CURTISS he participated in Operations Castle and Bravo, which were H-bomb tests at Eniwetok and the island of Bikini. He retired after 33 years of service with the rank of Captain, US Naval Dental Corps.

After his retirement he continued to practice dentistry in Wellington, Texas, where he also raised cattle and horses. He was an accomplished carpenter, and seemed to always have some kind of home construction project going on that typically involved the whole family, whether they wanted to be involved or not. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and he dearly loved to read, to play cards and dominoes, and to listen to good music. He enjoyed being with and teasing his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rowena Hughes and Juanita Wagner.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue McNett of Nacogdoches; daughter, Christine Hoskins and husband Don of Nacogdoches; daughter, Marilyn Hill and husband Jim of Elgin, Texas; son, Roy C. McNett Jr. and wife Jane of Rio Dulce, Guatemala; son, Judd McNett and wife Joan of Nacogdoches; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Richard Baker, Magnolia Court Assisted Living, Cecil R. Bomar Rehabilitation Center, Willowbrook Nursing Home, and Heart to Heart Hospice for the special love and care he received.
