     A memorial service for Mr. Richard L. Davis, 86, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11:00 am at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Sevar and Rev. Justin Beadles officiating.

     Mr. Davis was born on December 13, 1924, in Berwick, Iowa to the late John Benjamin and Jessie Prapel Davis. He passed away peacefully on March 21, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

     Richard served his country in the US Army. He married the love of his life, Rose Atrip, on February 12, 1955, in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Richard was an humble man. Richard was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, had faith in life, and he loved and served his Lord to his full capacity.

     He was athletic all his life, he had been a nationally ranked raquetball player, loved to play baseball and skiing. He was the captain of his baseball team at University of California-Davis. He was a 60 + year Mason as well. Richard would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He lived his life as Christ would have him live it. He loved his family tremendously and all who knew Richard will miss him greatly.

     Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose Davis of Nacogdoches; daughter, Sharon Bradley and husband, David of Nacogdoches; son, Michael Davis and wife, Carol of Houston; daughter, Susan Hall and husband, Jack of Nacogdoches; six grandchildren, Jill Muggleston and husband, Rob of Atlanta, Holly Hinze and husband, Garth of Nacogdoches, Tabitha Ward and husband, Andrew of Colorado, Springs, Mark Bradley and wife, Amanda of Dallas, Lindsy Davis of Austin and John Benjamin Davis of College Station; one great-grandson, Luke David Hinze; as well as a host of other extended family and good friends.

     In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

     Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
