The submission dates for the fifth annual Nacogdoches Azalea Trail Photography Contest have been extended! Azalea Trail officials wanted to give everyone who plans on entering the contest more time to get the photos turned in to the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Previously all entries were to be received between February 1 and February 28. The new deadline is now Friday, March 4. The photographs must include azaleas and must have been taken within Nacogdoches County. The contest is sponsored by the Daily Sentinel and judged and exhibited by the Nacogdoches Photography Club.
“For years our residents and visitors have been taking beautiful pictures of the local azaleas, and now they will have a chance to show off their skills and help promote the Nacogdoches Azalea Trail at the same time,” said Melissa Sanford, executive director of the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau.
As part of their entries, photographers must also submit a bio of no more than 300 words. Each participant may enter up to three photos, and there is a $5 fee per submission. Cash prizes will be presented to the top three winners. The top three photos will be printed in the Daily Sentinel and all photos will be on display from March 22-April 2 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street.
Photographers can also submit their Nacogdoches County azalea photos to info@nacogdochesazaleas.com for the possibility to be featured in a new book called Azaleas of Nacogdoches edited by Barbara Stump, Research Associate and Project Coordinator for the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.
The 2011 Nacogdoches Azalea Trail will be held March 12-April 2, featuring driving tours, an azalea symposium, a floral-design exhibit, and even a Little Princess Garden Party.
