Horticulture consultant Steve Dobbs to be SFA Gardens’ March lecture series speaker

Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Les and Theresa Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Steve Dobbs, a horticulture consultant with Oklahoma State University’s Landscape Services, will present “Creative Design and Horticulture on the Oklahoma State University Campus.”

Participants will learn creative and unique plant use ideas that can be practiced both in residential and commercial landscape settings.

Dobbs served as landscape services director for OSU for nearly 12 years. He and his staff members were responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of over 850 acres on the OSU Stillwater campus.

In January, Dobbs moved into a consulting role at OSU, working on special landscape projects and designing seasonal color displays. Dobbs is the author of “The Southern Lawn Series” and the “Oklahoma Gardeners Guide.” From 1990 to 1995, Dobbs produced and hosted the weekly TV show “Oklahoma Gardening” on the Oklahoma Public Television Network.

Dobbs received his Bachelor of Science in horticulture from OSU and Master of Science in horticulture from the University of Arkansas.

The Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month. It is preceded by an attendee social at 6:30 p.m., and a rare plant raffle will follow the program. The lecture is free and open to the public, but donations to the Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series fund are always appreciated.

Parking is available at the PNPC and Raguet Elementary School, located at 2428 Raguet St.
