Two Nacogdoches County Sherriff Deputies made a prisoner exchange with Maricopa County (Phoenix, Arizona) Sherriff’s Office Thursday, July 12, at the Nacogdoches A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport. The two Maricopa County Deputies are both pilots and spoke briefly with airport staff about the Maricopa County prisoner transport program. Maricopa County contracts with both federal and state government to transport prisoners by air. The county owns aircraft, which is also used for search and rescue missions.

Mary Uresti, airport manager, said, “The Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office has made a couple of prisoner exchanges at the Nacogdoches Airport in recent months. The pilots are courteous and professional. And, they appear to treat their passengers with the same respect I’ve seen other commercial pilots treat passengers.”
