International Yoga Day at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library invites the community to attend a celebration of International Yoga Day on Wednesday, June 21st at 5:30 p.m. The one-hour class will introduce and guide you through a series of beginner-accessible Hatha yoga postures and breathing exercises. Shannon Madden will facilitate this free class that’s open to the public.

PowerPoint & Prezi Class at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library is offering a free PowerPoint & Prezi class on Friday, June 23rd at 5:30 pm. Students will learn how to create a slideshow for school, work or fun. Students will also receive an introduction to Prezi, an online slideshow presentation site. The class is free, but registration is requested. Meditation Basics at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library invites the community to attend a workshop on Meditation Basics facilitated by Arrie Tucker on Saturday, June 24th at 1:30 p.m. This class will be a basic introduction to the practice of meditation. The benefits of a regular meditation practice have been touted for thousands of years, with recent research showing the quantifiable physical health benefits. No experience is necessary.

Dogs at Work at the Public Library

Family and children’s programs continue with a fun exploration of working dogs on Tuesday, June 27th at 10:00 a.m. Participants will learn about working dogs and how even dogs can help build a better world. A K-9 dog and his handler and will examine how dogs help the police do their jobs. We’ll also meet some therapy dogs and learn about the numerous ways these dogs help our community. Bookbinding Workshop at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library invites adults to attend a workshop on Bookbinding on Thursday, June 29th at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn and practice various bookbinding techniques, and will get to make a beautiful hand-bound book to take home.

Cupcake Workshops at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library will host cupcake decorating workshops, one for teens and one for adults. The teen event, Build a Better Cupcake, will be held on Friday, June 30th at 5:30 p.m. The adult event, Cupcake Construction, will be on Friday, July 7th at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn techniques for frosting and decorating the most inviting and exciting baked treats. “Our summer theme is Build a Better World, and the first step to a better community may just be through baked goods!” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “We had planned a decorating event for tweens and teens, but when our adult patrons learned of it, they requested their own event. We always ask for feedback and aim to please.”

Reading Buddies at the Public Library

Although the new school year seems far away, the Nacogdoches Public Library reminds parents and caregivers how critical it is for children to continue to read during the summer. For children who might need a little assistance with their reading aloud skills, the public library offers Reading Buddies every Wednesday from 4:00-5:00 pm. Library staff or volunteers work with children and their parents or caregivers to assist with reading fluency and comprehension. The program is free and no registration is required. Children entering grades 1st through 12th are eligible.
