     To start off 2011, there will be a swearing in ceremony at the Nacogdoches County Courthouse this coming Saturday, Jan.1, 2011, at 10:00am at the 145th District Courtroom. Come and support our elected officials as they take the oath of office and begin their work in 2011! I hope to see you there!

     Also, below is part of an email I received from the Texas Conservative Digest that is calling for people to come to the State Capitol on January 11th. You can read the details below – Read the section that starts “Showdown at the State Capitol..”. This day will be the beginning of the 82nd Texas legislature and the first thing to be voted on is the election of the Speaker of the House. Joe Straus will running as the incumbent, and more information on his left leaning slant is listed a section near the bottom – See the things numbered 1-9 – These do not even mention that Joe Straus campaigned for and publically spoke for a Democrat this past election. It would be good if we could get a great number of REAL conservatives showing their support for a REAL conservative speaker in Austin on January 11th!

     TCD – It’s time to SPEAK-UP Folks. All the work that was done in 2009 and 2010 will go down in flames if Joe Straus is re-elected as Speaker of the Texas House. On opening day of the 82nd Texas Legislature — Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 12:00 to 3:00 P. M., we need you in Austin at the State Capitol. I know – it’s a work day for all of us – but if there is way for you to be there – this is our shot to really put Texas in the lead nationally. Joe Straus will, once again bring his Democrats and RINO coalition to shoot down the conservative agenda IF he is re-elected. We need to be there to let our elected representatives hear from the people who put them in office – and who can take them out again!!

     The very first order of business in the Texas House will be the selection of a Speaker. When that vote is taken, we need as many people as can fit into the Capitol to be there to see how your Legislator votes. 111th Congress Added More Debt Than First 100 Congresses Combined: $10,429 Per Person in U.S.
(CNSNews.com) – The federal government has accumulated more new debt–$3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29)—during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury.

     That equals $10,429.64 in new debt for each and every one of the 308,745,538 people counted in the United States by the 2010 Census.

     The total national debt of $13,858,529,371,601.09 (or $13.859 trillion), as recorded by the U.S. Treasury at the close of business on Dec. 22, now equals $44,886.57 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

December 30 Crime Log: Dude, they’re taking your Dell

     300 block of Pitman (BOH) Victim discovered between 2200 hrs and 2029 hrs someone had kicked in her back door and removed her 32” flatscreen television set as well as her Dell desktop computer.

     200 Mackechney St. (Organized Criminal Activity) Officers received a report of suspicious persons and contacted three subjects. They were identified and released. Searching the area officers found an open car door. The owner was re-contacted and she listed items taken including a red cup with change. Contacted the three subjects again and found the red cup of change on one. One subject stated one of the others had open unlocked car doors and went through vehicles. Two adults and one juvenile were arrested.

     1200 block Spokane St. (Assault FV) The victim reported that in an argument her common law husband grabbed her by the throat and held her for a brief time while threatening her with his fist. The suspect left before officers arrival

Chris Herrington’s Reality: Voluntary Humility

Chris Herrington decided years ago that his reality was much more fun…

and he’s ready to tell you why.

Sit back and relax.
It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

     Most people accept the fact that we are now off of work and school for the Christmas holiday, and then we can tack on New Year’s, so it seems that going religious for today’s topic is not so outrageous a leap since we have, many of us, gotten 10 days off and a boost for the economy, a much needed miracle about right now.

     This being the case, let’s indulge ourselves a little.

     No religious holiday would be complete without a round of verses from the Bible:

13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

     Paul, in this context, has been arguing that everything is “in him.” No matter what it is; it is “in him.” That seems like such a well-documented and overly stated fact in Paul’s mind that repeating it as in whom or in him or through him or by him seems like over kill, but then that is the nature of this subject; “being dead in our sins,” leaves us without any other avenue of thought. We are dead, but reborn in Christ! This is such a tightly wound argument that Paul is able to use this base as a way to argue everything else from it. In his writings, he takes on every modern religious issue, including religion itself. Whatever we might believe about the Bible, word of God or pile of letters, to anyone who takes the time to read the Bible as a piece of literature, there are some interesting concepts to mull over for the holidays. Let me just pull out one, and let’s contemplate it for New Year’s.

     Can there really be such a thing as “voluntary humility?”

“18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility….”

     I’ve read Colossians about 15 times in the last 3 weeks; I know! Get a life, right?

     The Bible uses the word reward 103 times. Paul names what his idea of a reward is, “Colossians 1: 18What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.” He does not want to impute the gospel; Christ does not impute him. No charges, no bills, no IOU’s. Freedom to be who we are. Paul is not doing anything that will create any kind of burden to the message of Peace and Grace in Christ. Okay, this all sounds so wonderful and touchy-feely! Let’s get back to the beguiling part, “18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility….”

     This means that your humility has to be experienced. You don’t get to be humble because you are a “good person.” No one gets off that easy. God knows everything that Santa is clueless about, but he does not impute it to us! The game is, he pass the tab! (Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to ask a spouse to clarify that for them.) Humility is not voluntary because we all know that we are not all that and a bag of chips; if we accept this it’s called “humility.” If we deny this, it’s called “humiliation.” If we think that we can volunteer to be humble, it’s called ego. Giving something that is meaningless is “volunteering” to help the urchins. This is why it is “easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into heaven.” The door to heaven is not for sale! What does a rich man have that God would want anyways? Now, I do not presume to know what God wants, so let’s not send in letters telling me to get this or that straight. The point is that this is not about money, per se. It’s about false worth.

     I’m simply reading a passage from the Bible and wondering if people can really “volunteer” to be in a state of humility. This just sounds so self-righteous! She is so chaste! He’s an honest person! He’s a Christian businessman. He has such wonderful volunteer humility! We all think that we know the reason for the season, and we love the old movies that remind us of that reason. We belly up, bloat up, fill up, and drag on, but we hardly seem to take a rest between Labor Day and New Year’s to really check our own values at the door long enough to read our founding documents, supporting verses, or personal philosophy. We are so busy saying we believe that we don’t stop to check the reality of our beliefs. What does it all mean?

     You can volunteer to be in an event, but then you have to face how you feel about it when you get there. What of soup lines, meal deliveries, and the little old gray-haired ladies that started most of our churches? Once the packaging is torn and the food is reconfigured into left-overs, the games are all played and the nuances are figured out on the new phones, what now? It’s back to work, ten days later. What kind of break was that? Short.

     Doing something that gave away what was important to you, your time, that would be a gift that might go on for a life time. Volunteer your time; what you learn there will be humbling enough.

December 29 Crime Log: Excuse me, but you and the car are wobbling

     2800 Pearl Driving while Intoxicated Officer observed a vehicle driving on two flat tires and made a traffic stop. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested.

     900 Pearl Burglary of Motor Vehicle Complainant left his vehicle unlocked and his notebook computer was stolen.

     3000 N Pecan Theft Complainant states that while she was at work her roommates friends entered her bedroom and stole her money and clothes.

     1500 E Main Theft Complainant advised a subject entered his store and stole several DVD’s.

     3800 Maid Marian Theft Complainant advised while he was out his roommate had several friends over and when he returned they were gone along with his power pad charger.

     2800 Pearl Burglary of Motor Vehicle Complainant advised her vehicle was forced open and her purse and CD player was taken.

     P10-22586 ~ 1300 BLK SOUTH ST ~ BURG COIN OP MACHINE ~ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO 1310 SOUTH ST FOR A BURGLARY OF A COIN OPERATED MACHINE CALL. COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT AN UNKNOWN PERSON BROKE ONE OF THE DOORS ON HIS VACUUM MACHINES. COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT NO MONEY WAS TAKEN AND JUST THE DOOR WAS BROKE AND THE KEY HOLE TO THE COIN DRAWER WAS DAMAGED.

     P10-22550 ~ 3300 BLK PEARL ST ~ BMV ~ COMPLAINANT STATED THAT HER UNATTENDED VEHICLE WAS BURGLARIZED SOMETIME IN THE NIGHT. A DIGITAL CAMERA AND MULTIPLE CDS WERE STOLEN

     P10-22591 ~ 200 BLK W AUSTIN ST # 3 ~ THEFT ~ ON 12-27-10 AN OFFICER RESPONDED TO A THEFT COMPLAINT. UPON OFFICERS ARRIVAL, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT $1500 IN CASH HAD BEEN REMOVED FROM AN UNLOCKED VEHICLE DURING THE NIGHT. THE COMPLAINANT WISHES TO FILE A REPORT.

     P10-22596 ~ 200 BLK FLORA ST ~ BOH ~ COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT A KNOWN SUBJECT ENTERED HIS RESIDENCE AND STOLEN AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF CHANGE. COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT ENTRY WAS MADE BY REMOVING AN A/C WINDOW UNIT.

     P10-22614 ~ 900 BLK THIRD ST ~ BURGLARY (HABITATION) ~ COMP WAS CONTACTED AT HIS RESIDENCE REGARDING A BOH. HE ADVISED AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT ENTERED HIS RESIDENCE BETWEEN 0830 AND 1930 AND TOOK AN AMERICAN FLAG, $1,500.00 CASH, A 24″ MEN’S GOLD NECKLACE, A BOTTLE OF CROWN ROYAL, AND AN UNKNOWN MAKE/MODEL 9MM PISTOL. ENTRY WAS POSSIBLY MADE THROUGH A BATHROOM WINDOW, ALTHOUGH, THE BACK DOOR WAS UNLOCKED.

     P10-22578 ~ 1000 W MAIN ST ~ DWI/POCS ~ OFFICERS CONTACTED JOSE ALVAREZ ON A TRAFFIC STOP. HE WAS DETERMINED TO BE INTOXICATED AND ARRESTED. DURING A SEARCH INCIDENT TO ARREST, OFFICERS LOCATED A SMALL BAGGY OF COCAINE IN ALVAREZ’S POCKET.

     P10-22557 ~ 2213 GOUND ST # B ~ EVADING ARREST ~ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO 2213 GOUND ST FOR A DISTURBANCE CALL. OFFICERS CONTACTED SUBJECT WHICH CONTINUED TO WALK AWAY AND REFUSE TO OBEY OFFICERS COMMANDS. OFFICERS THEN HAD TO PHYSICALLY DETAIN THE SUBJECT. ARRESTED WATTS DESMONE

     P10-22552 ~ 3100 RAGUET ST ~ FOUND PROPERTY ~ ON 122610 A CITIZEN FOUND A KNOWN PERSON’S UNITED STATES PASSPORT WHILE EXERCISING NEXT TO THE ROADWAY. THE OWNER WAS GIVEN A MESSAGE BY A FAMILY MEMBER BUT WAS UNABLE TO BE CONTACTED BY POLICE. PROPERTY PLACE IN EVIDENCE FOR SAFE KEEPING.

     P10-22574 ~ 210 W AUSTIN ST ~ THEFT ~ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A BMV AT IRON HORSE CONDOS. COMP REPORTS THAT AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT ENTERED HIS UNLOCKED VEHICLE BETWEEN 1700 AND 2330 AND TOOK HIS WINCHESTER SUPERX 12GA SHOTGUN FROM THE FRONT SEAT. COMP COULD NOT PROVIDE A SERIAL NUMBER, BUT HE ADVISED HE WOULD CONTACT NPD AS SOON AS HE FOUND IT. IT IS BLACK WITH SYNTHETIC STOCK.

December 26 Crime Log: The clock says it’s clobbering time

     P10-22520 ~ 3400 E MAIN ST ~ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF ~ COMP CLAIMED THAT HER BOYFRIEND CAUSED DAMAGE TO HER PROPERT, SUSPECT WAS GONE UPON OFFICERS ARRIVAL. MINI BLINDS AND A CLOCK RADIO DAMAGED.

     P10-22524 ~ 1700 SOUTH ST ~ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF ~ UNKNOWN PERSONS BROKE THE WINDOW TO THE BUSINESS. NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE MISSING.

     P10-22534 ~ 600 PLEASANT ~ BOV ~ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A BOV AND DISCOVERED MULTIPLE VEHICLES HAD BEEN ENTERED. UPON ARRIVAL OFFICERS SAW TWO SUBJECTS FIGHTING IN THE FRONT YARD. JESUS MARQUEZ WAS FIGHTING WITH THE ORIGINAL CALLER, MARQUEZ WAS IN POSSESSION OF WHAT WAS BELIEVED TO BE STOLEN PROPERTY. MARQUEZ WAS ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AND TAKEN TO THE NLEC, NO OWNERS OF THE PROPERTY COULD BE FOUND AT THAT TIME. SEVERAL HOURS LATER ANOTHER SUBJECT CALLED NPD TO REPORT THEIR VEHICLE BURGLARIZED AND MOST OF THE PROPERTY WAS RETURNED. A TOTAL OF SIX VEHICLES WERE ENTERED, OFFICERS ARE REQUESTING A WARRANT ON MARQUEZ FOR BOV.

     P10-22536 ~ 1500 NORTH ST ~ POM ~ OFFICERS CONTACTED LAQUENTIS ADAMS IN THE PARKING LOT FOR LOUD MUSIC COMING FROM HIS VEHICLE. ADAMS HAD A BAGGY OF MARIJUANA IN PLAIN VIEW AND WAS ARRESTED.

     P10-22541 ~ 700 LANE DR ~ UUV ~ OFFICERS MET THE COMPLAINANT, AT HAMPTON INN ON SOUTH ST IN REFERENCE TO A STOLEN VEHICLE. SHE ADVISED THAT HER HUSBAND, DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A FRIEND’S RESIDENCE ON LANE DR AROUND MIDNIGHT AND WHEN HE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AT 0300 IT WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO GLASS ON THE GROUND AND COMPLAINANT’S REPORTEDLY HAD THE ONLY SET OF KEYS.

     P10-225446 ~ 700 HOME AVE ~ RECOVERED NARCOTICS ~ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THIS LOCATION TO SERVE WARRANTS ON SEVERAL SUSPECTS, WHILE THERE A SMALL AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA WAS SEIZED.
