Mr. Cortines was born on September 26, 1954, in Nacogdoches, Texas and he died on January 17, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 700 BLOCK OF VIRGINIA AVENUE. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A SUSPICIOUS PERSON CALL. OFFICERS FOUND THREE INDIVIDUALS THAT WERE IN POSSESSION OF ITEMS TAKEN IN VEHICLE BURGLARIES ON VIRGINIA AVENUE AND COX STREET. JEREMIAH WILLLIAMS, CARNAVIOUS HOGAN AND JAMISON WATKINS WERE ARRESTED.
THEFT; 1200 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. COMPLAINANT WENT INTO A STORE TO SHOP. WHEN HE RETURNED, HIS BICYCLE WAS STOLEN FROM THE FRONT PORCH AREA OF THE STORE. THE BIKE IS A BRIGHT RED POWERLITE SPITFIRE WITH RED AND YELLOW STRIPES.
ASSAULT; 1300 BLOCK OF SPOKANE. A SUSPECT THREATENED TO DO BODILY INJURY TO ANOTHER. THE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED.
POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE-POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA; 700 BLOCK OF OAKHILL PLAZA. OFFICERS OBSERVED A VEHICLE DRIVING RECKLESSLY THROUGH THE APARTMENT COMPLEX. THE SUSPECT WAS STOPPED AND FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED MARIJUANA AND XANAX.
ASSAULT; 300 BLOCK OF ELLINGTON. A MAN AND WIFE WERE INVOLVED IN A DISTURBANCE. THE MAN ALLEGEDLY PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED THE WIFE BY STRIKING HER AND HOLDING HER DOWN ON A SOFA. THE MAN WAS ARRESTED.

DAISY KATHERINE TENISON CHANCELLOR, age 101, passed into eternal life on January 15, 2011. Daughter of Ida Nicols Tenison and Cal Tenison, she was born in Cushing, Texas on August 6, 1909. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rue C. Chancellor, her only son, Glenn Allen Chancellor and granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Chancellor Matcek, as well as her brother, Lawrence Tenison, and sisters, Gracie Tenison Rawlinson and Bela Tenison Wade.
She is survived by grandson, Gary Allen Chancellor and great-grandsons, Benjamin Allen Matcek, Nicholas Clay Matcek and Michael Kohl Matcek, and beloved niece and nephew, Juanell and Tony Rawlinson, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Chancellor-Case.
Daisy Chancellor’s roots in East Texas run very deep, beginning in 1857 when her grandparents, Joshua and Mary Nichols moved to Texas from Alabama. They established their home “By the waters of Indian Creek,” in the area of Cushing before it was even a town. They bore three children, Ida, Daisy’s mother, Joe and Matilda Tenison. Daisy’s paternal grandparents came to Texas from Arkansas in 1896. Although her family were farmers, her father, Cal, came from a long line of preachers and he and her mother, Matilda, established the first Church of Christ at Sacul, in east Texas. Daisy was a member of the Church of Christ.
Daisy Catherine Tenison attended the old Cushing Rock School and graduated from Cushing High School as valedictorian in 1927. The same year she married Rue C. Chancellor and the couple moved to Nacogdoches and opened their own family grocery store, R. C. Chancellor grocery, at 1626 Douglass Road, which they operated until shortly after Mr. Chancellor’s death in 1969.
A graveside service will be held January 19, 2011, at Sunset Memorial Park, North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Bro. Bill Tubbe officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Chancellor, Benjamin Matcek, Clay Matcek and Kohl Matcek. Cason Monk-Metcalf will be in charge of the services.

Bill was born on March 26, 1926 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to David E. and Allie Carson Hammrick.
He proudly served his country by serving in the United States Navy in the Philippines.

IT WAS FOUND THAT A MALE AND A FEMALE SUBJECT THAT WERE IN A DATING RELATIONSHIP HAD BEEN IN AN ALTERCATION. THE MALE HAD VISIBLE INJURIES FROM THE FEMALE. THE MALE AGREED TO LEAVE THE HOME FOR THE NIGHT. THE VICTIM DID NOT WISH TO FILE CHARGES.

Dr. Arthur W. Benoy, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on January 14, 2011 at the age of 85.
Dr. Benoy was born on November 16, 1925 in Shelby, North Carolina. He graduated from Shelby High School and served in the Navy during World War II as a naval aviator. He attained his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1949 and his master’s and doctor’s degrees from the University of Tennessee in 1953 and 1962.
Dr. Benoy joined the faculty of Stephen F. Austin State University in 1962 where he was associate professor in the Department of Secondary Education for 22 years. Additionally, he taught high school music in Tennessee and Louisiana, played cello in the Shreveport Symphony, and founded the Shreveport Youth Symphony. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Delta Kappa, Kiwanis Club, American Educational Research Association, and American Association of University Professors. He was also a member of the Universal Round Dance Council, the Carousels Dance Club in Shreveport, and the Apartpoint Dance Club in Lufkin.
Dr. Benoy is survived by Dorothy M. Benoy and two sons, Warren Benoy of Dallas and Danny Benoy of Nacogdoches, and four grandchildren: Paige Benoy of Nacogdoches, Brian Benoy and Laura Benoy of Dallas, and Austin Benoy of Nacogdoches and Germantown, Tennessee, and sister Patricia Benoy Hopper of Oxford, Mississippi.
Dr. Benoy is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Wofford Benoy and mother, Ethel Henson Benoy, two sisters Selma Benoy Legg and Miriam Benoy Joyce, and brother Jean A. Benoy.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday the 17th of January, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Cason Monk – Metcalf Funeral Directors. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, the 18th of January, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
