A Funeral Service for Frank S. Tucker, Sr., 78, will be Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Frank died on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Nacogdoches. He was born March, 18, 1932, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

PUBLIC INTOXICATION-RETALIATION-ASSAULT ON A PUBLIC SERVANT-RESISTING ARREST-HARASSMENT OF A PUBLIC SERVANT-DISORDERLY CONDUCT; 100 BLOCK OF PEARL STREET. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A DISTURBANCE INVOLVING 15-20 PEOPLE. THIS SUSPECT WAS OBSERVED PUSHING ANOTHER PERSON AND WAS YELLING AND SCREAMING. HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION. ONCE IN THE PATROL CAR, THE SUSPECT ATTEMPTED TO KICK THE WINDOW OUT OF THE UNIT. OFFICERS PLACED THE SUSPECT IN LEG IRONS, AND HE KICKED AN OFFICER IN THE HEAD WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO PUT HIM BACK IN THE UNIT. THE SUSPECT THEN BEGAN TO SPIT ON AN OFFICER WHILE ENROUTE TO THE JAIL. MATTHEW VINES IS THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE.
TWO MORE ARRESTS WERE MADE FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION AT THIS DISTURBANCE.
THEFT; 1200 BLOCK OF SOUTH STREET. A FEMALE SUSPECT REMOVED SEVERAL ITEMS FROM A STORE AND FLED WITHOUT PAYING. THE MANAGER GAVE CHASE AND THE SUSPECT WAS APPREHENDED BY POLICE.
FORGERY; 3200 BLOCK OF NORTH UNIVERSITY DRIVE. A SUSPECT TRIED TO EXCHANGE A COUNTERFEIT BILL. THE MANAGER REFUSED, AND THE SUSPECT LEFT THE STORE, LEAVING THE BILL BEHIND.
DWLI; 100 BLOCK OF NORTH SANDERS. A SUSPECT WAS STOPPED ON A TRAFFIC VIOLATION AND FOUND TO HAVE A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND NO INSURANCE. HE WAS ARRESTED.
DWLI; 2600 BLOCK OF NORTH UNIVERSITY DRIVE. A DRIVER ON A TRAFFIC STOP HAD A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND NO INSURANCE. HE WAS ARRESTED.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA; 700 BLOCK OF EAST STARR. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A DRUG COMPLAINT. OFFICERS CONTACTED A SUSPECT IN A VAN AND COULD SMELL THE ODOR OF BURNING MARIJUANA. OFFICERS LOCATED SUSPECTED MARIJUANA IN THE VEHICLE. THE OCCUPANT WAS ARRESTED.
Service is pending at this time for Mrs. Helen Todd, 94, of Houston, Texas formerly of Nacogdoches. Mrs. Todd passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, in Houston.

Graveside service for Mr. Weldon Brannan, 93, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 3:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery with Bill Stanaland and Dave Watson officiating.
Mr. Brannan passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011, in Nacogdoches. He was born on February 6, 1918, in Putnam, Texas to the late H.H. and Jenny Mae Wagnor Brannan.
He is survived by two sons, Lee Brannan and wife, Sarah Beth of Nacogdoches and Mack Brannan and wife, Donna from Buffalo Gap, Texas; one brother, Carol Ray and wife Evelyn of Odessa, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason Brannan and wife, Brandy, Amy Brown and husband, Chipper, and Melissa and Maxie Brannan; four great-grandchildren, Shelby Brown, Kaycie Brown and Parker and Drew Brannan.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Brannan and Iva Lee Wragg; two brothers, J.N. Brannan and Kenneth Brannan.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 6-8 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Mass for Mr. Francisco Manuel Rios Vazquez, 23, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Andy Lorenzo Puga officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
Mr. Vazquez died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in Nacogdoches. He was born on September 16, 1987, in Durango, Mexico.

Margaret Leola Rice
Funeral for Margaret Leola Rice, 86, of Nacogdoches will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Laird Funeral Home with Lance Standridge and the Rev. Dennis Land officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rice died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, in Nacogdoches Medical Center. Born October 29, 1924, in Waverly, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Cookman Edward and Robbie Harrison Degges. She was a graduate of Bastrop (Louisiana) High School, playing as a guard for the team that went to the Louisiana state girls basketball finals. Leola was a devout Christian and had taught Sunday school classes for more than 30 years. She married Harlan C. Rice October 31, 1942, in Bastrop, Louisiana, and they moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where she lived the rest of her life. In her early years, she had worked as a clerk and in bookkeeping for McCrory’s and JCPenney. When she became a mother, she devoted her time and energy to rearing three children. In later years she worked as a clerk and retouch artist for Robinson’s Studio and as a caregiver for several elderly ladies who became dear friends. Her talents included a beautiful singing voice and exceptional ability as a seamstress. She enjoyed oil painting for many years. Her handmade quilts, all created with love, are precious treasures for all her family members.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband,Harlan C. Rice on March 3, 1977; her father- and mother-in-law, the Rev. Samuel Aaron and Margaret Elizabeth Abercrombie Rice; an infant brother, Lamarris Degges; brothers, Leon Degges and Fulton Degges; and sister, Agnes Hopkins.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Lavoy Rice of Longview, Texas; daughters, Loretta Annette Rice Cammack and husband, George, of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Karen Maritte Rice Standridge of Nacogoches, Texas; stepson, G. Larry Rice and wife, Sharon, of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Gregg Rice and wife, Keri, Brent Rice and wife, JoAnn, Cheryl Simmons and husband, Danny, Mike Cammack and wife, Andrea, Tammy Alvis and husband, Gordon, Robin Faulkner and husband, Jim, Lance Standridge and wife, Rebecca; and eighteen great-grandchildren who were the lights of her life.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011, at Laird Funeral Home.

On 2-11-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 16 in reference to a Drug Compliant. Upon arrival the Officer located a subject in possession of marijuana. There is one suspect.
Stephen F. Austin State University has reported a spring student enrollment of 11,896, a 1.1-percent decrease from last year. The number of SFA students attending classes decreased by 133 students from spring 2010 to spring 2011.
The spring 2010 enrollment of 12,029 was the highest spring enrollment in the university’s history and marked a 7.2-percent increase from the previous year. Although this spring’s enrollment is slightly down from last year, it represents the second-highest spring enrollment in the university’s history.
Undergraduate enrollment is unchanged from spring 2010 with 10,288 students, while graduate enrollment decreased from 1,741 to 1,608.
Several of SFA’s colleges experienced year-to-year increases in spring enrollment, including the College of Fine Arts, up 4.8 percent from 770 to 807; the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, up .6 percent from 627 to 631; and the College of Sciences and Mathematics, up 1.9 percent from 1,873 to 1,909.
Enrollment in the Nelson Rusche College of Business decreased 6.8 percent from 1,846 to 1,721. James I. Perkins College of Education enrollment decreased .9 percent from 3,839 to 3,805, while enrollment in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts decreased 1.7 percent from 3,074 to 3,023.
Francisco Rios-Vasquez, 23, of Nacogdoches, died 4:45 p.m., February 9, following a head on collusion that occurred February 8 at 6 a.m.
Rios-Vasquez was eastbound on Hwy. 21 in a Toyota 4-door when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane where he struck a 2006 Ford truck driven by Justin Kyle Butler, 24, of San Augustine.
Rios-Vasquez was taken to Laird Funeral Home. Butler is in stable condition with broken bones.
Horace Maynard Cash, age 64, passed away on February 10, 2011 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on July 4, 1946 in Union County, Tennessee. He is survived by daughter, Kristi Sims of Knoxville, Tennessee.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to a charity of your choice.
