     11-02536 / 1600 Cardinal #212 (Criminal Mischief) the comp advised that an unk subject damaged her door.

     11-05242 / 2000 Durst (Harassment) a known suspect has been calling the comp non-stop. Subject was warned twice by officer and he continued to call. Warrant request.

     P11-02559 / 1300 North St. (Duty on striking unattended vehicle) In a private parking lot, a white Ford Mustang had damage to the right quarter panel. The impact pushed the car out of the parking space.

     P11-02579 / 2400 S. Fredonia (DWI) Officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver Baldomero Reyes was found to be in an intoxicated condition. He was arrested.

     P11-02583 / 1000 N. University (BMV) When victim returned to his vehicle, he found the door open and a light on inside, A window had been broken out. He observed a B/M wearing a white and navy blue flannel shirt with dark pants running up the hill to the Mall. He then saw a white 4-door car left the Mall and went north on University.

     P11-02591 / 1500 North St. (PI & Resisting Arrest) Officers responded to a large disturbance in the parking lot of a local night club. Suspect was arguing with others and was told to leave by officers. When he continued the arguing, officers ordered him to stop. Officer then went to place the suspect under arrest. Suspect john smith then resisted the officers effort to place him in custody, he was taken to the county jail.

     P11-02576 / 1200 Mound (Criminal Mischief) Victim had her Honda Civic rear tires punctured and both headlights painted over. Hospital video shows at 19:33 hrs a W/M damaging her car and leaves in a white truck.

     P11-02594 / 1500 North (Assault) Victim was inside a local night club, when her friend walked up to her and punched her in the face.

     P11-02590 / 100 North St. (DWI) Officer observed a vehicle almost collide with a highway fixture. When stopped the driver John Vera was found to be intoxicated and he was arrested at this time. Passenger Jordan Vera was found to be intoxicated and was also arrested.

     P11-02566 / 1300 Spokane St. (Assault & Resisting Arrest) Officers responded to a disturbance where Alexandra Robbins had assaulted his mother. Officers found him outside in the yard. Robbins was aggressive towards officers and refused to comply with their commands until a Taser was drawn and pointed at him. He was arrested.

     P11-02600: 800 Lock (Assault/inter w/ 911 call) The comp stated that her mother had choked her and took her phone away when she called 911.

     P11-02584/ 1600 University (DWI) Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver Gordan Booker was found to be intoxicated and arrested, the passenger Justin Richard was also found to be intoxicated and arrested.

     P11-02602: 1500 North (Assault) The comp stated that she was assaulted by several females while in the parking lot of a local night club. Of the 4 suspects one is known by the comp

Event: VW show cruising into town

     NACOGDOCHES – Soon azaleas will be blooming all over the oldest town in Texas, and that means a swarm of bugs won’t be far behind!

     The East Texas VEE-DUB Chapter of the Vintage VW Club of America will present A Bloomin’ Good Volkswagen Show on Saturday, March 26. As many as 100 Volkswagens will be on hand for the show, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Festival Plaza just south of downtown Nacogdoches.

     “This is a chance to see some really nice, old Volkswagens and see some of the most beautiful azalea blooms in Texas the same weekend,” said show spokesman Sammie Smith.

     “The show normally attracts VWs from all over Texas, as well as Louisiana, Arkansas and even Oregon. Some of the finest VWs you have ever seen – from mild to wild – will be there for everyone to enjoy. You can play ‘Slug Bug’ to your heart’s content!”

     VWs of all shapes and sizes will be represented, including the vintage restored cars from the ‘50s; the “VW Thing,” Germany’s answer to the Jeep; VW busses, the ultimate hippy vans of the ‘60s and ‘70s; as well as the new VW Beetles.

     “We are thrilled to have the East Texas VEE-DUB Club back in Nacogdoches for its annual spring show, “ said Melissa Sanford, executive director of the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This is a wonderful event providing a fun, family-oriented activity for our local residents, as well as attracting a lot of out-of-town visitors to our city.”

     There is no charge for spectators, but donations are welcome. All proceeds will go to the Relay for Life – Nacogdoches, an annual fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society. Organizers are also soliciting sponsorships for the show at a cost of $30 per sponsor. Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring the show and helping the American Cancer Society should call Smith at 936-569-7821 or James Perryman at 936-288-2724.

     To enter a vehicle in the show, just drive it down to Festival Plaza the morning of the event. Entry into the show is $15 per Volkswagen. At the conclusion of the show, many of the VW owners will be cruising the 25 miles of designated routes of the Azalea Trail.

     “If you see a bunch of VWs driving through your neighborhood that Saturday afternoon, don’t worry – it’s not the ‘60s all over again and you haven’t lost your mind. It’s just a lot of old VW owners out for a view of the city’s beautiful azaleas,” Smith said.

1941 – 2011

     Miss Helen Marie Stone, age 69, of Douglass, Texas, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Lexington Place in Nacogdoches, Texas.

     Miss Stone was born Oct. 10, 1941. She was a member of Eden Community Church.

     Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas. Interment will follow at Eden Cemetery on FM 225.

     Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

February 18: SFA Crime Log

Thursday February 17, 2011 – Friday February 18, 2011

     On 2-18-2011 an Officer observed a damaged vehicle in the Lumberjack Village Parking Garage. The Officer made contact with the owner of the vehicle who advised their unattended vehicle was damaged in the Lumberjack Village Parking Garage. There are no suspects.

     On 2-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Vista Drive in reference to Terroristic Threat. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised she has been threatened by a known person on several occasions. There is one suspect.

     On 2-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the Miller Science Building in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-17-2011 money was stolen from his unattended backpack at the Miller Science Building. There are no suspects.

     On 2-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Barnes and Noble Bookstore in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-17-2011 a subject stole several books from Barnes and Noble Bookstore. There is one suspect.

     DWLI; 600 BLOCK OF RITCHIE STREET. OFFICER STOPPED A VEHICLE FOR AN EQUIPMENT VIOLATION. THE DRIVER WAS FOUND TO HAVE A SUSPENDED DRIVERS LICENSE AND WAS ARRESTED.

     POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA; TIMBERLAKE AT ZULA. OFFICER STOPPED A VEHICLE AND FOUND THE DRIVER TO HAVE MUNICIPAL WARRANTS. SUSPECTED MARIJUANA WAS LOCATED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND A PASSENGER. TWO ARRESTS WERE MADE.

     THEFT; 300 BLOCK OF WEST COLLEGE. THE MANAGER OF AN APARTMENT COMPLEX REPORTED SEVERAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS STOLEN.

     FOUND PROPERTY; 100 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A COMPRESSED AIR TANK WAS LOCATED IN THE ROADWAY.

     HIT AND RUN; 4500 BLOCK OF NORTH UNIVERSITY DRIVE. A PARKED VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY AN UNKNOWN VEHICLE THAT LEFT THE SCENE.

     CRIMINAL MISCHIEF; 3100 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A WINDOW WAS BROKEN OUT OF A PARKED VEHICLE. NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE MISSING.

     BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 4800 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A VEHICLE WAS FORCIBLY ENTERED AND A PURSE WAS STOLEN.

     BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 4800 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A WALLET WAS TAKEN FROM A PARKED VEHICLE. NO SIGNS OF FORCED ENTRY.

     TELEPHONE HARASSMENT; 1500 BLOCK OF BASS STREET. A KNOWN SUSPECT SENT THE COMPLAINANT A THREATENING TEXT MESSAGE.

     PROHIBITED WEAPON; 3000 BLOCK OF NORTH PECAN. WHILE INVESTIGATING A DISTURBANCE, OFFICERS LOCATED A SET OF BRASS KNUCKLES ON A MAN THAT WAS INVOLVED. HE WAS ARRESTED.

SFA News: SFA faculty to present American chamber music

     The Alazan Piano Trio, composed of faculty members from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will present “An Evening of American Chamber Music” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

     Violinist Jennifer Dalmas, cellist Evgeni Raychev and pianist Ron Petti have not performed as a trio in a few semesters, and they are happy to be working together again, promoting works by American composers, said Dalmas.

Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members Evgeni Raychev, cello; Ron Petti, piano; and Jennifer Dalmas, violin; will present a concert of American chamber music at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus

     To open the program, Dalmas and Petti will perform William Bolcom’s “Second Violin Sonata.”

     “The first movement, entitled ‘Summer Dreams,’ is very bluesy and tranquil, and is followed by a fast and furious second movement,” Dalmas said. “The last movement, written in memory of jazz violinist Joe Venuti, uses a lot of his techniques, such as slides and left hand pizzicato.”

     Raychev and Petti will then present Ned Rorem’s “The Dances for cello and piano,” a 15-minute suite of seven dances which Dalmas described as “very exciting.”

     The trio will close the concert with “In Celebration” by Stanley Silverman, who has spent most of his career composing for films.

     “The audience will hear references to jazz and Latin American music all through this work,” Dalmas said.

     All three musicians received their doctoral degrees from Florida State University. Petti joined the SFA faculty in 1999, and Dalmas and Raychev in 2003.

Event: Locals to polish green thumbs at azalea symposium

     NACOGDOCHES – Whether your prized and pampered azaleas are the talk of the town or you have the blackest thumb in the neighborhood, the upcoming Azalea Trail Symposium is the place to be Saturday, March 12.

      Titled “The Wonders of Deciduous Azaleas,” the symposium will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Ag Building at Stephen F. Austin State University. Registration is $40 per person, $30 for SFA Gardens members and includes lunch, tips on pruning and propagating azaleas, and a guided tour of the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden – the largest azalea garden in Texas. Barbara Stump, the Mize garden’s primary designer, said the symposium will provide information on the unique features of deciduous azaleas. The program should be helpful to master gardeners and novices alike.

     Dr. David Creech, Regents Professor of Horticulture and Director of the 68 acres of SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University, is the symposium speaker this year and will share insights on these beautiful flowering shrubs including their bright colors and fragrance and how to use them to best effect in home landscapes. Melissa Sanford, executive director for the Convention & Visitors Bureau says, “We are so lucky to have such an experienced and renowned speaker for this year’s Azalea Trail Symposium and who better to speak about azaleas than the person in charge of the largest azalea garden in Texas!” In addition, the guided tour led by Barbara Stump and Dr. Creech will let you in on design secrets of SFA’s own Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

     The Azalea Symposium is part of the thirteenth annual Nacogdoches Azalea Trail, which will be held March 12 through April 2. The annual event will also feature a floral-design exhibit, a sidewalk sale, and little princess garden party and 25 miles of self-guided driving tours.
