February 19 – February 21: SFA Crime Log

Friday February 18, 2011 – Monday February 21, 2011

On 2-21-2011 an Officer observed a window cut on a convertible top of a vehicle in lot 46. The Officer made contact with the owner who advised that a radio had been stolen from the vehicle between 2-20-2011 and 2-21-2011. There are no suspects.

On 2-20-2011 an Officer was dispatched to University Woods in reference to a subject being threatened. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant who stated that his roommate threatened to fight him. The suspect was found to be a minor and consuming alcohol. There is one suspect.

On 2-20-2011 an Officer observed numerous suspicious subjects in the Lumberjack Village Parking Garage. The Officer made contact with the subjects and located one of the subjects in possession of marijuana. The subject was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.

On 2-19-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Lodge in reference to Assault by Threat. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-19-2011 a known subject threatened to assault her at Lumberjack Lodge. There is one suspect.

On 2-19-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to Burglary of a Habitation. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-19-2011 numerous items were stolen from his unsecured residence at Steen Hall. There are no suspects.

On 2-19-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 16 in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 2-17-2011 and 2-19-2011 his unattended clothing was stolen from the laundry room at Hall 16. There are no suspects.

On 2-18-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 16 in reference to a Drug Complaint. Upon arrival the Officer located a subject in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at Hall 16. There is one suspect.

On 2-18-2011 an Officer observed that an unknown person had damaged the north wall of the Griffith Heating and Cooling Plant. There are no suspects.

On 2-18-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Hit and Run. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-18-2011 a vehicle struck her attended vehicle in Lumberjack Village Parking Garage. There is one suspect.

February 21: NPD Crime Report

ASSAULT; 2800 BLOCK OF PEARL STREET. COMPLAINANT REPORTED THAT A KNOWN SUSPECT ASSAULTED HIM BY HEAD BUTTING HIM. THE COMPLAINANT DID NOT WISH TO FILE CHARGES.

SEXUAL ASSAULT; 312 WEST MAIN. COMPLAINANT REPORTED THAT HER SPOUSE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH HER AGAINST HER WILL. COMPLAINANT WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THE SUSPECT. COMPLAINANT WISHES TO FILE CHARGES.

ASSAULT; 1600 BLOCK OF CARDINAL. COMPLAINANT REPORTED THAT A BOYFRIEND ASSAULTED HER DURING THE COURSE OF AN ARGUMENT. WARRANT REQUEST.

HIT AND RUN; 1400 BLOCK OF MARTINSVILLE. COMPLAINANT REPORTED THAT AN UNKNOWN VEHICLE STRUCK HIS AND LEFT THE SCENE.

DEATH REPORT; 3400 BLOCK OF SOUTH STREET. A MAN WAS FOUND DECEASED IN A MOTEL ROOM AFTER A WELFARE CHECK WAS REQUESTED. THE MAN WAS FROM PLEASANTON,TEXAS. NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY. OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH WILL BE RULED BY JUSTICE OF THE PEACE.

BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 2900 BLOCK OF CHIMNEY ROCK. SEVERAL HAND TOOLS WERE REMOVED FROM AN UNSECURED TOOL BOX ON A TRUCK.

SFA: SFA offers children’s art classes next two Saturdays

Area children may register for one of two age-appropriate art workshops to be offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 10 a.m. to noon on two consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 26 and March 5, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

First through fourth graders will meet on Feb. 26, and fifth through eighth graders will meet on March 5. In both sessions, participants will learn about forest pathogens; examine how local and national artists have depicted pathogens in “The Edge of Life: Forest Pathology Art,” which is currently on display at The Cole Art Center; and create an original artwork that represents a pathogen they find interesting.

Classes will be taught by SFA art education majors under the guidance of Dawn Stienecker, SFA lecturer of art education.

Registration for each class is $5 and covers the cost of the materials and refreshments. Parents may pre-register by e-mailing Stienecker at stieneckdg@sfasu.edu and providing the child’s name and age.

Event: Little Princess Garden Party returns for fifth year

Introduce your favorite little girl to the beauty and joy of the garden at the fifth annual Little Princess Garden Party at the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden

Calling all fairy princesses! Your presence is humbly requested at the fifth annual Little Princess Garden Party at the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

Little girls are invited to dress in their favorite princess costumes or garden party outfits and gather for an afternoon of royal treatment, including refreshments, crafts, party favors, a garden tour and entertainment in the largest azalea garden in Texas. Little princes are also welcome to attend.

There will be two parties, to accommodate all the fairy princesses wishing to attend. The parties will be held at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, and will be one of the highlights of the thirteenth annual Nacogdoches Azalea Trail March 12-April 2. The princesses’ escorts will want to bring cameras to capture all the magic of this very special day.

“This is a great way to introduce the special little girl in your life to the beauty and wonder of the Azalea Garden at its most spectacular time of year,” said event organizer Cheryl Boyett.

Seating at the Little Princess Garden Party will be very limited, and tickets are required for both children and adults. The cost is $20 for adults and for children. The party is intended for girls between 3 and 8 years old, although slightly older or younger girls might enjoy it as well.

“I can think of nothing prettier than a bunch of little girls dressed up as princesses dancing through those beautiful azaleas,” Boyett said. “Hopefully, we will make some beautiful memories that both the adults and children will cherish forever.”

Obituary: Shirley Jean Jernigan

Funeral services for Shirley Jean (Perkins) Jernigan, 64, are planned for 11 AM, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Fran and Preston Fitzgerald officiating and burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Nacogdoches.

Shirley was born September 10, 1946 and passed away February 19, 2011. Visitation with Shirley’s family will be from 5 until 7 PM, Monday, February 21, 2011 and Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches. A full obituary will be posted as soon as it is available.

February 20: NPD Crime Report

P11~02609 ~2912 ~ CHIMNEY ROCK ~ UUMV ~ COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT AN UNKNOWN PERSON STOLE HIS 1993 GMC TRUCK RED IN COLOR SOMETIME DURING THE NIGHT.

P11~02619 ~ 407 HOUSTON ST ~ THEFT ~ COMP WAS CONTACTED ABOUT A VEHICLE HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO SELL ON E-BAY. SUSPECT ADVISED HE COULD NOT USE E-BAY BUT COULD PAY BY USE OF PAY-PAL. COMP RECEIVED AN E-MAIL FROM WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS PAY-PAL FOR 800 MORE THAT THE AGREED UPON PRICE. SUSPECT ASKED COMP TO SEND THE EXTRA 800 TO HIS FRIEND TO TAKE CARE OF THE SHIPPING. COMP SENT THE MONEY WESTERN UNION THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE PAY-PAL EMAIL AND ACCOUNT WAS FAKE.

P11~02618 ~ 2214 SOUTH ST ~ THEFT ~ COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT UNKNOWN SUBJECT STOLE A U-HAUL CAR HAULING TRAILER FROM HIS BUSINESS.

P11~02616 1400 CARDINAL ST ~ CREDIT CARD ABUSE ~ UNKNOWN ACTOR USED THE COMPLAINANTS CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO MAKE A PURCHASE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY WITHOUT THE COMPLAINANTS PERMISSION OR KNOWLEDGE.

P11~02620 ~ 4810 NORTH ST ~ THEFT ~ ON 021911 THE COMPLAINANT’S PURSE WAS MISTAKENLY LEFT IN A SHOPPING BUGGY IN THE PARKING LOT OF A DEPARTMENT STORE. SHE RETURNED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND DISCOVERED THAT IT HAD BEEN TAKEN BY AN UNKNOWN PERSON.

P11~02637~ 1700 MARTINSVILLE ST ~ HIT-N-RUN~ WHILE WORKING IN THE 1700 OF MARTINSVILLE ST, OFFICER OBSERVED A VEHICLE CRASHED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE HAD STRUCK A LARGE PINE TREE AND HAD EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE. THERE WAS NOT ANYONE AROUND THE VEHICLE UPON POLICE CONTACT.

P11~02657~ 327 W COLLEGE ST; 128 ~ ASSAULT ~COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT HIS GIRL-FRIEND OF SEVERAL YEARS ASSAULTED HIM. THE COMPLAINANT DID NOT WISH TO FILE CHARGES.

P11~02662~ 1424 NORTH ST ~ DWI ~ OFFICERS RECEIVED A CALL CONCERNING TWO INDIVIDUALS URINATING IN FRONT OF THE STORE. OFFICERS ARRIVED IN THE AREA AND LOCATED THE VEHICLE ON CAMPUS. THE DRIVER, JOHN GOMEZ, WAS FOUND IN AN INTOXICATED STATE. GOMEZ WAS ARRESTED.

P11~02650~ 3001 EJ CAMPBELL BLVD ~ ASSAULT ~ COMPLAINANT STATED THAT HER BROTHER CAUSED PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH HER WHICH SHE FOUND OFFENSIVE. SHE DID NOT WISH TO FILE CHARGES.

P11~02638~ 1500 NORTH ST ~ D.U.I./POM/FURNISHING ALCOHOL ~ OFFICERS CONTACTED THE SUSPECTS DURING A TRAFFIC STOP. OFFICERS ARRESTED THE DRIVER, BRITNEY RODGERS, FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE BY MINOR. THE PASSENGER, LAJOIA RECORD, WAS ARRESTED FOR FURNISHING ALCOHOL AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA.

P11~02633~ 3801 NORTH ST ~ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF ~ COMPLAINANT ALLEGES THAT AN UNKNOWN PERSON THREW OR SHOT AN OBJECT AT THE WINDOW BREAKING IT.

P11~02641~ 510 SHAWNEE ~ DEADLY CONDUCT/ CRIMINAL TRESPASS ~ ALLEGES THAT A KNOWN SUSPECT CAME TO HER RESIDENCE AND SHOT AT HER TWICE. COMPLAINANT WISHES TO FILES CHARGES ON THE SUBJECT.
