Obituary: Martin E. “Marty” Wilkinson

     A graveside committal service for Mr. Martin E. “Marty” Wilkinson, age 59, of Nacogdoches will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Peebles Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Marty passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born March 26, 1951, in Baytown, Texas. Marty graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1969. He had resided the past 25 years in Nacogdoches. He loved the outdoors and his love of horses lead him to work for several ranches in the Nacogdoches area. Survivors include his son, Joshua M. Wilkinson and soon to be daughter-in-law, Cason Sadler, both of Shreveport, LA; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Mike Hicks of Nacogdoches; brother, Mike Wilkinson of Baytown; niece; Natalie Hicks of Houston; nephew, Jared Wilkinson of Baytown; along with many cousins and friends.

     He is preceded in death by parents V. P. “Wilkie” and Nona Wilkinson, and grandparents James & Martha Beard and Martin & Edna Wilkinson. The family would like to thank Dr. Vijaya Pokala and the many nurses in the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital ICU for their dedication and care for Marty during this difficult time.

March 11: SFA Crime Log

     On 3-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Village in reference to a Fire Alarm inside a residence. Upon arrival the Officer located a subject in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol. There is one suspect.

     On 3-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 3-10-2011 his unattended cell phone was stolen in the Ferguson Building. There are no suspects.

     On 3-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 3-3-2011 his unattended textbook was stolen in the cafeteria at the Baker Patillo Student Center. There are no suspects.

Additional Information:

     Sexual Assault- The victim and the suspect are aquainted. During a disturbance, the suspect allegedly forced the victim to have a sexual encounter with him by force. The offense occurred in a private residence.

     DRUG ARRESTS- NW STALLINGS- Reports have been pended by officer. During a routine walk through at the bus station, officers observed two suspects that were acting suspiciously. Two suspects were arrested for unrelated drug charges:

     Robert Hunter of Monroe, La. for possession of approximately 1.2 pounds of suspected cocaine. The substance was located on his person.

     Danny Evans of Ruston, La. was arrested for possessing xanax and hydrocodone. These items were located on his person.

     There is nothing to indicate that the incidents are related.

Merci’s World Cuisine back at the Farmer’s Market (March 12)

     Merci’s World Cuisine will make its spring debut back at the market this Saturday. Jim Reed will also have his wonderful green house tomatoes.

     Other things to look for this Saturday: baked goods (breads, cakes, cookies & pies), candles, canned goods (wild-picked jams & jellies including may haw, blackberry, blueberry, muscatine and wild plum as well as jams, marmalades, preserves, chow-chow, pickled vegetables, salsas and relishes), ceramics, artisan Texas cheeses, chicken & dumplings, free-range eggs, locally raised organic tilapia fish and tilapia fillets, flowers, herbs (basil, cilantro, coriander, dill, oregano, parsley, rosemary & thyme), local raw honey, jewelry, plants (starter plants, trees & whips), tamales and vinegars. LOCAL PRODUCE: frozen beans (butter, green, baby Lima & pinto), frozen blueberries, cabbage, frozen field corn, cucumbers, kohlrabi, onions, frozen peas (black eye, zipper cream, brown Crowder & purple hull), banana peppers, sweet potatoes, new potatoes, tomatoes (green, Romas, red Celebrity slicers & red Jet Star slicers) and turnips.
