Callie Ruby Leatherwood Dooley
Callie Ruby Leatherwood Dooley of Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 100 years, went to be with her Lord on May 6, 2011 at Stallings Court Nursing Home.
Callie was born on January 21, 1911, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, the youngest of six children. Her father died when she was eleven months old and her mother continued the work of the family farm providing all the family’s needs. After graduating from Stilwell High School in 1929, she moved to Tulsa and lived at the YWCA and worked at J.C. Penney. While attending the singles class at First Baptist Church, Tulsa; she met her husband, James Dooley, and they were married November 18, 1934. In the early years of her marriage, she was a support to her husband as he had various jobs which required moving often. Her husband was called to the pastoral ministry in 1946 and she assisted in his ministry until he died in 1977. She had a ministry in her own right as an encourager, teacher, counselor, and friend. She was known for her great sense of humor and always had a smile for everyone. She had the gift of making people laugh and feel good about themselves. When she was asked to what she attributed her long life, she replied, “Attitude!”
She is survived by her son, Paul and wife, Katy, of Athens, Texas and her daughter, Charlotte Wootton, of Nacogdoches, Texas. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Lance Dooley of Irving, Texas, Bryce Dooley and his wife and children, Stephanie, Logan and Zachary of New Braunfels, Texas, and Juree Ballow and husband and son, Billy and Wade, of College Station, Texas. She was the heart of our family and we were blessed to have her in our lives. The postive and powerful impact she had on her family is eternal and she leaves a legacy of strong faith, courage, and perseverance. We are left with a lifetime of wonderful memories.
She will be buried beside her husband at a graveside service in Warner, Oklahoma, at a later date.
George Otto Hadac, 88, of Nacogdoches passed away May 2, 2011.
He was born January 9, 1923, to Joseph and Julia (Juranek) Hadac in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Marines in World War II and was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was a flight instructor. He remained in the Reserves as a pilot, even flying jets, until he had served his 20 years for full retirement at the rank of Major. He was one of the first groups that went to college on the GI Bill – attending and graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in teaching.
George Hadac
He moved to Arizona in 1954 and began by teaching Physical Education and eventually Industrial Arts, becoming the Coordinator for the whole district. He taught courses in Industrial Arts as a summer course in Northern Arizona University for a number of years. He retired after 30 years of teaching, returning to Nacogdoches, Texas.
He was a capable carpenter and built two of the houses in which he lived, including installing the electrical and plumbing, block laying and all else to complete the houses. He also built furniture.
He liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed a good fight with a large fish! He enjoyed playing cards and was even in some bridge tournaments in the area. He loved music and was a member of the Joyful Sound Choir of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member. He was a member of Nacogdoches County Retired Teachers Association and AARP.
He always had a beautiful smile and was ready to lend a helping hand when needed. He also liked to tell his “stories” of flying and other things he had done.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie Sue (White); daughter, Georgia Musselman and husband, Gary, of Mesa, Arizona; granddaughter, Carol Dobbs and husband, Joseph, of Djibouti, Africa; grandson, Paul Johnson and wife, Lisa, of Chandler, Arizona; great-grandchildren Andrew & Lydia Dobbs and Elijah, Micah & Caleb Johnson. Also surviving are step-daughters Marilou Smith of Nacogdoches; Suzanne Baldon and husband, Paul, of Waco; Lori (Brown) Stevens and husband, Bobby, of Suwanee, Georgia; and step-son Robert Brown of Shelbyville; step-grandchildren, Amber Smith, John-Philip Mahfood, Sebastian Mahfood, Vincent Mahfood, Valerie Mahfood, Jennifer Holm, Jessica Fenton, T.J. Brown, and Robbie Brown. They added numerous great-grandchildren to complete a very large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Yevonne (Sanders); his parents; sisters, Mamie Hadac and Molly Furst; and brother, Joseph Hadac.
We all will miss his wonderful smile!
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, with Brother Bill Taylor and Pastor Paul Sevar officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, located at 5127 North St., Nacogdoches.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A special thank you goes to Rhonda Pruitt Henry, Sh-Donna Pruitt, Ashley Jones, Kim Pruitt, Cousinis Jones, and Mary Jackson for taking special care of him.

On 05-06-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Mays Hall in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised 5-5-2011 an unknown person removed the bike lock from his bicycle and placed another bike lock on the bicycle. There are no suspects.
On 05-06-2011 officers were dispatched to Lumberjack Village in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival the officers made contact with two SFASU students, who stated on 05-06-2011 at approximately 0150hrs they had been involved in a mutual fight. Neither party wished to pursue criminal charges. There are two suspects.

The Nacogdoches Farmers’ Market, located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets, is open from 8 a.m. until noon or later every Saturday morning and on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 7 p.m. If the market parking lot is full, additional parking is available in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex parking lot.
