May 12: SFA Crime Log
On 5-12-2011 an Officer was dispatched Griffith Hall in reference to Burglary of a Habitation and Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 5-8-2011 and 5-12-2011 some of her prescription medication was stolen from her residence and her clothing was damaged at Griffith Hall. There are no suspects.
On 5-11-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Village Parking Garage in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer discovered that a emergency light fixture had been broken. There are no suspects.

Description: I just need someone to sublease from May 15 to August 15. There can be a few days overlap after the 15th of August. This is a one bedroom, one bathroom townhouse apartment located at The Californian. The property used to be known as Pecan Park. It is located right across from the tennis courts at SFA and is literally a minute and a half walk to Pecan Park. A swimming pool and tanning deck have recently been added to the property. The apartment is completely furnished. I have towels and washcloths in the bathroom that can be used and plenty of dishes and utensils to use in the kitchen. All I ask is that you wash them after use. In the living room, I have a recliner, rocking chair, and mushroom/satelite chair. The bedroom and livingroom are very open. In the bedroom, I have two bookshelves, a desk, a nightstand, and a fullsize bed. I’m willing to store whatever decorations, etc. that you do not want to use. There are three closets in the apartment. However, I will probably use one to store things for when I leave. The location is perfect if you need to conserve gas. The apartment complex is located within easy walking distance of SFA, the park, and many restaurants.

The Nacogdoches Farmers’ Market, located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets, is open from 8 a.m. until noon or later every Saturday morning and on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 7 p.m. If the market parking lot is full, additional parking is available in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex parking lot.

SFA to host Family Fun Day at Caney Creek Recreation Area (May 14)
Nacogdoches Naturally is offering families the opportunity to participate in a field trip to the Caney Creek Recreation Area for fishing, bird watching, hiking and picnicking on Saturday, May 14. Participants will meet at Stephen F. Austin State University’s Pineywoods Native Plant Center at 8 a.m. and caravan to the site.
Outdoor activities at the recreation area will be provided by Rachel Collins, executive director of the Lake Sam Rayburn Nature Center. The center is developing educational, interpretive and recreational facilities at Caney Creek with the goal of encouraging children to develop “a sense of place” about the outdoors, said Kerry Lemon, program director for Nacogdoches Naturally.
“One of the objectives for the Family Outdoor Adventures program is to connect families with the many outdoor recreational resources in our region,” Lemon said. “This day will be a great chance to visit this area and learn more about the facilities available there.”
Families are asked to wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor adventure and good walking shoes. The nature center has a facility that can be used for cover if needed, so the event will be held even if rain is predicted, Lemon said.
Travel time from Nacogdoches to Caney Creek Recreation Area, located in the Angelina National Forest just east of Zavalla. is approximately 90 minutes. The group will leave Lake Sam Rayburn in time to arrive back at the PNPC no later than 4 p.m.
Cost for the event is $10 per family. Families will need to bring sack lunches for the day. Limited van transportation will be available. Reservations are required. Registration deadline is Thursday, May 12.
Nacogdoches Naturally is a program of the SFA Department of Agriculture. The Pineywoods Native Plant Center is located at 2900 Raguet St.

May 11: SFA Crime Log
On 5-11-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer located a fire extinguisher that had been sprayed in the west tower stairwell. There are no suspects.
On 5-11-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to Assault. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 5-11-2011 she was pushed by a known subject at Steen Hall. The complainant declined to press criminal charges. There is one suspect.
On 5-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Lodge in reference to Burglary of a Habitation. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 5-8-2011 and 5-9-2011 his Xbox controller was stolen from his unsecured residence at Lumberjack Lodge. There are no suspects.
On 5-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lot 27 in reference to Hit and Run. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 5-8-2011 and 5-10-2011 her unattended vehicle was damaged in lot 27. There are no suspects.
On 5-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Library in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised the week after spring break her iPod touch and a watch were stolen from her residence. The complainant also stated on 5-9-2011 a pizza pan was stolen from her residence at University Woods. There are no suspects.
On 5-10-2011 an Officer observed a subject driving on East College St and park at Kampus Bookstore. The Officer knew that the subject had two active warrants. The Officer made contact with the subject and discovered that the subject was driving without a valid driver’s license. The subject was arrested for the warrants and for Driving While License Invalid with prior convictions. The subject was transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.

Joe R. Lansdale (born October 28, 1951) is an American author and martial-arts expert. He has written novels and stories in many genres, including Western, horror, science fiction, mystery, and suspense. He has also written for comics as well as Batman: The Animated Series.
Frequent features of Lansdale’s writing are usually deeply ironic, strange or absurd situations or characters, such as Elvis and JFK battling a soul-sucking Ancient Egyptian mummy in a nursing home (the plot of his Bram Stoker Award-nominated novella, “Bubba Ho-Tep,” which was made into a movie by Don Coscarelli). He is the winner of the British Fantasy Award, the American Horror Award, the Edgar Award, and seven Bram Stoker Awards. The World Horror Convention recently made him the recipient of the 2007 Grand Master Award for contributions to the field of Horror fiction.
He is perhaps best known for his “Hap and Leonard” series of novels which feature two friends, Hap Collins and Leonard Pine, who live in the town of Laborde, Texas and find themselves solving a variety of often unpleasant crimes. The characters themselves are an unlikely pairing; Hap is a white working class laborer in his mid forties, and Leonard is a gay black man. Both of them are accomplished fighters, and the stories (told from Hap’s narrative point of view) feature a great deal of violence, profanity and sex. Lansdale paints a picture of East Texas which is essentially “good” but blighted by racism, ignorance, urban and rural deprivation and corruption in public officials. Some of the subject matter is extremely dark, and has included pedophilia and anti-gay violence. The novels are characterised by sharp humour and “wisecracking” dialogue.
Lansdale, who was born in Gladewater, Texas, now lives in Nacogdoches and is the writer in residence at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also teaches at his own Shen Chuan martial arts school and is a member of the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
