On 8-15-2011 an Officer was contacted by a complainant at Todd Hall in reference to Theft. The complainant stated that between 5-14-2011 and 8-15-2011 the handlebars were stolen from her bicycle. The bicycle was secured to bike rack at Todd Hall. There are no suspects.

Battle of the Piney Woods Golf Tournament slated Friday, Oct. 7
Fans and alumni from Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State are invited to register for the inaugural Battle of the Piney Woods Golf Tournament. The tournament will be played at Wildcat Golf Club Friday, Oct. 7, the day before the game, and will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m.
The registration fee is $600 for a foursome, which includes green fees, carts, school-specific goodie bags, drinks on the course as well as lunch and dinner. Players will also have access to an exclusive silent auction featuring Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State memorabilia, game experiences and other prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.
All proceeds from the tournament will be split between the two schools, and will go to fund scholarships at each institution. Learn more about this event.
Tickets for annual rivalry game on sale through SFA Ticket Office
Tickets are now on sale through the SFA Ticket Office for the Lumberjacks’ annual rivalry game against Sam Houston State. The annual “Battle of the Piney Woods” will once again take place in Houston at Reliant Stadium Saturday, Oct. 8. The game is slated to kick off at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $15 to $35, and only lower bowl seating will be open at the stadium. The east side of the stadium will be reserved for SFA fans. Prime seating locations ($35) will be in sections 126 and 127, while seats between the 20- and 40-yard lines are in sections 124, 125, 128 and 129. Primary student seating is in sections 130-134.
Fans can purchase tickets by calling the SFA Ticket Office at (936) 468-JACK or through the SFA website at www.sfajacks.com.
The rivalry game was moved to Reliant Stadium last season and is schedule to be in Houston through 2013. The Bearkats hold a 48-35-2 all-time record in the series, but the Lumberjacks have prevailed in recent meetings. The ‘Jacks recorded a 42-3 victory in 2009, which was the largest margin of victory in series history, and followed that up with a thrilling 31-28 victory last season.
The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open “Lauren McAdams: Potential Energy” with a 6 p.m. reception on Friday, Aug. 19, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
Absolution Evangelist (Oprah), a 10-by-15-by-2-inch sculpture composed of copper, nickel silver, brass and steel by SFA Assistant Professor Lauren McAdams, is one of the pieces included in Lauren McAdams: Potential Energy. The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open the exhibition at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House as part of the 2011-2012 Gallery Series.
The exhibition features recent works by SFA Assistant Professor of Art Metals/Jewelry Lauren McAdams, a member of the SFA faculty since 2008. The opening includes a 7 p.m. artist talk.
In creating the one large sculptural work and two series of smaller sculptures for the show, McAdams used copper, brass, nickel silver, steel, cast iron and mokume gane (a Japanese multi-metal laminate) and employed both traditional metalworking and jewelry techniques.
One hundred human-like forms that McAdams calls “flying rings,” all cast from the same form, are included in the large sculpture, “The Average Dude.” Their installation on individual steel rods allows them to move slightly in response to passersby and therefore have “potential energy,” the artist explained.
A series of more flying rings, each of which includes moving components such as wheels or propellers, deals with opposites. The toy-like sculptures are playful and suggest motion (or potential energy), but they will be installed on cables and “appear frozen in time in the gallery space,” McAdams said.
McAdams calls the other series in the show her “match strikers” because the pieces were influenced by an antique match striker she saw at a plantation in Natchitoches, La.
“These are two-sided, trophy-like forms about women such as Sarah Palin, Dolly Partin, Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey, who are loved and hated, depending upon to whom you are speaking,” McAdams said.
Before joining the SFA faculty, McAdams received her Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Murray State University in Murray, Ky.
Her artwork has been exhibited in various states across the nation and published in two different volumes within Lark Books’ 500 series: “500 Metal Vessels” and “500 Wedding Rings.”
She will have a solo exhibition in the Houston Center for Contemporary Crafts Artist Hall Space in December, and her work will be exhibited at Angelina College in March.

On 8-15-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Library in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 8-12-2011 unknown subject(s) wrote graffiti on the wall inside the men’s restroom at Steen Library. There no suspects.
Thursday August 11, 2011 – Friday August 12, 2011
On 08/11/2011 officers on patrol observed a vehicle displaying an expired Texas Inspection. The officers initiated a traffic stop and found the driver to be operating a motor vehicle on a public roadway while her license was invalid and with a previous conviction for driving while their license was invalid. The driver was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Law Enforcement Center. There is one suspect.
On 8/12/2011 an officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to a criminal mischief that occurred at Hall 14 on 8/11/2011 between 2300 hours and 0000 hours on 8/12/2011. The suspect sprayed a foam substance on the residents door. There is one suspect.

On 8-10-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Hit and Run. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 8-10-2011 his unattended vehicle was damaged in the Aikman Parking Garage. There are no suspects.
