Battle of the Piney Woods Golf Tournament slated Friday, Oct. 7

Fans and alumni from Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State are invited to register for the inaugural Battle of the Piney Woods Golf Tournament. The tournament will be played at Wildcat Golf Club Friday, Oct. 7, the day before the game, and will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m.

The registration fee is $600 for a foursome, which includes green fees, carts, school-specific goodie bags, drinks on the course as well as lunch and dinner. Players will also have access to an exclusive silent auction featuring Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State memorabilia, game experiences and other prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.

All proceeds from the tournament will be split between the two schools, and will go to fund scholarships at each institution. Learn more about this event.

Tickets for annual rivalry game on sale through SFA Ticket Office

Tickets are now on sale through the SFA Ticket Office for the Lumberjacks’ annual rivalry game against Sam Houston State. The annual “Battle of the Piney Woods” will once again take place in Houston at Reliant Stadium Saturday, Oct. 8. The game is slated to kick off at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $35, and only lower bowl seating will be open at the stadium. The east side of the stadium will be reserved for SFA fans. Prime seating locations ($35) will be in sections 126 and 127, while seats between the 20- and 40-yard lines are in sections 124, 125, 128 and 129. Primary student seating is in sections 130-134.

Fans can purchase tickets by calling the SFA Ticket Office at (936) 468-JACK or through the SFA website at www.sfajacks.com.

The rivalry game was moved to Reliant Stadium last season and is schedule to be in Houston through 2013. The Bearkats hold a 48-35-2 all-time record in the series, but the Lumberjacks have prevailed in recent meetings. The ‘Jacks recorded a 42-3 victory in 2009, which was the largest margin of victory in series history, and followed that up with a thrilling 31-28 victory last season.
