Thursday February 2, 2012 – Friday February 3, 2012
On 2-2-2012 an Officer was dispatched to North Hall in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 2-1-2012 and 2-2-2012 her secure bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at North Hall. There are no suspects.
Wednesday February 1, 2012 – Thursday February 2, 2012
On 2-1-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the Austin Building in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 2-1-2012 money was stolen from her unsecured wallet while left unattended at the Rusk Building. There are no suspects.
Tuesday January 31, 2012 – Wednesday February 1, 2012
On 1-31-2012 an Officer observed a suspicious person on Raguet St. The Officer made contact with the subject and discovered the subject to be intoxicated. There is one suspect.
On 1-31-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Barnes and Noble Bookstore in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 1-31-2012 the complainant observed on the store camera a subject switch her umbrella for one of the store’s umbrellas. There is one suspect.
On 2-1-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 20 in reference to a Drug Complaint. Upon arrival the Officer located two subjects in possession of marihuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a weapon. One subject was arrested for Places Weapons Prohibited and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There are two suspects.
Monday January 30, 2012 – Tuesday January 31, 2012
On 1-30-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 1-30-2012 her unattended cell phone was stolen at Steen Library. There are no suspects.

Friday January 27, 2012 – Monday January 30, 2012
On 1-29-2012 an Officer observed two suspicious subjects in lot 43. The Officer made contact with the subjects, and located one of them in possession of marihuana. The subject was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.
On 1-29-2012 an Officer made contact with a suspicious vehicle in the Wilson Parking Garage. The Officer made contact with the driver and discovered the subject to be in possession of marihuana. The subject was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.
On 1-29-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Griffith Hall in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 1-28-2012 and 1-29-2012 a hand sanitizer and a motion sensor in Griffith Hall were damaged. There are no suspects.
On 1-27-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 10 in reference to Assault. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 1-27-2012 she was assaulted by an unknown person near the Student Center Parking Garage. There are no suspects.
On 1-27-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 1-23-2012 and 1-27-2012 his unattended iPad was stolen from the Human Services building. There are no suspects.
On 1-27-2012 an Officer was contacted by a complainant at Mays Hall in reference to Criminal Mischief. The complainant stated on 1-27-2012 one of the front doors to May’s Hall was damaged. The suspect was located and arrested on 1-27-2012 and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.

Obituary: Ardath Hurst Mayhar
Ardath Frances (Hurst) Mayhar died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was 81.
Born Feb. 20, 1930, to Bert Hurst and Ardath Ellington, in Timpson, Texas, Ardath Mayhar is the author of more than 60 books ranging from science fiction, fantasy, horror and young adult to historical and westerns, with some work under the pseudonyms Frank Cannon, Frances Hurst and John Killdeer. She began her writing career as a poet when she was 19 and began publishing science fiction in 1979 after returning with her family to Texas from Oregon.
She was nominated for the Mark Twain Readers Award, won the Balrog Award, was nominated for awards in almost every fiction genre, and won many awards for poetry. In 2008, she was chosen by the Science Fiction Writers of America as their author emeritus. Mayhar also owned and operated The View from Orbit Bookstore in Nacogdoches with her husband Joe until his death in 1999, after which she sold the store.
Mayhar taught writing through the Writer’s Digest school, provided book doctoring, and mentored numerous young authors. Until her health declined, Mayhar’s reputation was such that she spoke regularly in the area, drawing large crowds to listen to her wit and wisdom.
She is survived by two sons, James Mayhar and Frank Mayhar; two stepsons, Robert Mayhar and William Mayhar; grandchildren, Kai Mayhar, and Brad Mayhar; sister, Judy Corley; and brother, Joe Bert Hurst.
A memorial service will be held later, with details pending at this time.

SFA Board of Regents approves faculty, staff changes
The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved new faculty and staff appointments, changes of status, promotions and one retirement at its regular meeting Tuesday.
Faculty appointments were Ralph Marshall, associate professor of secondary education and educational leadership, and Kimberly Welsh, associate professor of elementary education, in the James I. Perkins College of Education.
Staff appointments included: Evan Coulson, coordinator of outdoor pursuits in campus recreation; Kacey Busby, Early Childhood Lab teacher; Robert Thomas, programmer/analyst I in information technology services; Horace Strong, project coordinator in the Richard and Lucille DeWitt School of Nursing; Veronica Weaver, assistant director of orientation; Peggy Mukelroy, research development specialist in research and sponsored programs; and Dan Su, assessment specialist.
Several staff appointments also were approved for residence life, including hall directors Christopher Crowe, Earlkisha Mayberry and Bryan Sutherland. Changes of status in that department included Erica Crafton, from hall director to area coordinator, and Amy Tedesco, from casual employee to hall director.
Other changes of status approved by the regents Tuesday included: Madalene Miller, from assistant to the dean to academic adviser in the Nelson Rusche College of Business; Jill Milem, from assistant director of counseling/clinical director to director of counseling; Tiffany Rivers, from assistant director of disability services to interim director of disability services; Kelley Snowden, from administrative assistant in the Center for Regional Heritage Research to research associate for cultural heritage; and Jessica Barrett, from accounting clerk II to supervisor of physical plant administration.
In the College of Sciences and mathematics, changes of status included Jana Redfield, from project coordinator to project coordinator/research specialist-lab, and Ravi Yandamuri, from casual employee to research specialist-lab management.
Additional changes of status include: Amanda Rudolph, from associate professor of secondary education to interim associate dean and coordinator of National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education; LaShanda Parkhurst, from financial aid specialist to financial aid officer; Charles Lopez, from director of disability services to assistant dean of student affairs for support services; and Scott Speichert, from technical support specialist II to database administrator I.
In the College of Fine Arts, C.A. Scott was promoted from webmaster assistant to web design specialist. In addition, Jorge Salas was promoted to assistant professor of tuba and euphonium in the School of Music.
Approved staff appointments also included the following SFA coaches: James C. Harper, head football coach; Arlington Nunn, assistant head football coach; and David Gibbs, Jake Taylor Morrison, Bruce Erik Slaughter, Harold Christopher Truax, Jacob Willingham, Richard Olin, Nathan Paul Schneider and Troy Rogers, assistant football coaches.
In addition, regents approved the retirement of Jerry Frye, professor of communication and contemporary culture.
