    Jill Still of Nacogdoches has been named vice president for university advancement at Stephen F. Austin State University, the president announced Monday.

    Previously director of development for SFA, Still will assume her new duties immediately. She said she is honored to be given the opportunity to lead SFA’s Office of Development where she has served since 1994.

    “It is truly a joy to work with SFA alumni, friends and volunteers whose generous ways inspire and motivate me,” she said. “I am honored to be serving the university in this role.”

    Still, a Nacogdoches native, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business administration from SFA. In addition, she is a Certified Fund Raising Executive. She has served in a leadership role in the development office for 16 years with titles of director of special programs, associate director and director of development. As director, Still has administered the daily operations of the Office of Development, coordinated university special events and overseen giving programs and campaigns.

    “I have had the privilege of working with Jill for approximately 18 years as she has held various positions with the university,” said Dr. Baker Pattillo, SFA president. “She has always served SFA with distinction and professionalism, and I am very pleased to now have her as part of our administrative team.”

    Still is a member of the Nacogdoches Heritage Heralds and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. A member of First Christian Church, she resides in Nacogdoches with her husband, Joe, and their three sons, Preston, Carson and Joe Evan.

    Still replaces Dr. Sid Walker who resigned as vice president for development in May to accept a position in the private sector.

     Texas – Dr. Brian Oswald, professor of fire ecology, has been named the 2012-13 Stephen F. Austin State University Regents Professor.

    Reserved for exemplary role models to the university community, the title of Regents Professor is the highest honor the university may bestow upon a member of the faculty. The title is held for a full academic year.

    Oswald is the Lacy Hunt Professor of Fire Ecology, Silviculture and Range Management in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. He joined the SFA faculty in 1995, having previously served as assistant professor of forestry at Alabama A&M University. He also taught for five years at a community college on the Navajo Reservation.

    Oswald teaches both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses within the college, including forest ecology, fire management, regional silviculture, fire use in land management, range management, research methods, and forest and range ecological concepts.

    His research interests include fire ecology and management, silviculture, community ecology and classification, and silvopasture and agroforestry. He also advises SFA’s chapter of the Student Association for Fire Ecology, which recently earned the first Firewise Community designation conferred on a university in the nation.

    Oswald earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in fire ecology from Northern Arizona University and a doctoral degree in forestry, wildlife and range sciences from the University of Idaho.

    In 2002, Oswald was presented the Carl A. Schenck Award by the Society of American Foresters for outstanding forestry education, and he received the University of Idaho’s College of Natural Resources Mid-Career Alumni Achievement Award in 2004. In addition, he received the Presidential Award from the Society of American Foresters in recognition for his leadership as president of the association in 2007 and was named the Northern Arizona University School of Forestry Distinguished Alumnus for 2009.
