IN RE: P12-12726; a 21 year old female entered Long John Silvers and became involved in a disturbance with an employee over a personal matter. During the disturbance, the employee allegedly threw a cup of hot grease on the victim, causing burns to her face. The victim was treated at the hospital. No arrests as of yet, and the case remains under investigation.

Nacogdoches County Chamber announces award recipients
Three local businesses and a long-time peace officer will take center stage at the Nacogdoches County Chamber’s Sept. 25 annual meeting and banquet.
The Chamber board of directors met in June to review the nominations for the Gary Justice Business Excellence Awards and the Citizen of the Year award, according to Lee Smith, Chamber Chairman of the Board. “These are the highest awards our Chamber extends,” Smith said. “It is the board’s intention to honor those being recognized, and to encourage other businesses and individuals to strive for excellence.”
2012 Citizen of the Year Sgt. Greg Sowell takes charge of the fish fryer at a recent NacogdochesSeniorCenter fundraiser.
Sgt. Greg Sowell, Nacogdoches police officer, has been named 2012 Citizen of the Year. Sowell began his career in the 1980s as a patrolman, and now serves as community service and public information officer. He also oversees the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT), a volunteer group he helped create. Behind the scenes, he is a driving force keeping the doors open at the NacogdochesSeniorCenter and Meals on Wheels, where he has served on the board for over a decade and as chairman of the board for several years.
Austin Bank Regional President Francis Spruiell and some of her Nacogdoches team. The bank has been named Medium Business of the Year.
Heart of Texas has been named Small Business of the Year. Austin Bank has been named Medium Business of the Year. Hotel Fredonia has been named Large Business of the Year.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce 91st Annual Meeting and Membership Banquet is presented by Andrews & Andrews Attorneys at Law. It is Tuesday, Sept. 25 in the SFA Grand Ballroom. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a raffle and social hour. Dinner is served at 7 p.m.
During the event, chamber award recipients will be honored, the 2012-13 Chamber Board of Directors will be inducted and the annual chamber report will be presented.

City Employees Step Up to the Challenge of Local Blood Shortage
With more than 1,600 blood donations needed every month in East Texas, it’s no surprise that during the summer months there is a shortage of blood in our area because schools are out and regular donors are busy with summer vacations and other activities. “Hospitals in East Texas depend on blood donations for traumas, surgeries, premature babies, cancer patients and many others,” says Connie Weaver, Donor Recruitment Coordinator for the Blood Center of East Texas Nacogdoches office.
The City of Nacogdoches employees’ are stepping up to the challenge of the local blood shortage faced by the area and hosting two blood drives, back-to-back. “I am pleased to see our employees coming together to give back to the community and we would like to encourage our citizens’ to join the efforts as well,” states Interim HR Director, Tarah Peace. The donor coach can be found on Wednesday, July 25th 7:30am -11:00am in front of City Hall (202 E. Pilar Street) and 1:00pm-4:30pm in the Police Department parking lot. On Thursday, July 26th the donor coach will be located in the Recreation Center’s park lot at 1112 North Street across from Tipton Ford. “Walk-ins are welcome, but if you prefer to schedule an appointment, give the Human Resources office a call at 559-2567 and we will sign you up,” states Peace.
Giving blood is simple; the entire process – from the time you sign in until the time you leave after enjoying your post-donation cookies and juice – only takes about one hour. The actual whole blood donation takes about 10 minutes. It’s important to drink plenty of water and eat a hearty meal before donating, especially during the hot summer months.
If you are unable to make it to the City’s blood drives on July 25th & 26th, the Blood Center East Texas has two convenient Neighborhood Donor Centers – one at 3520 North University Drive in Nacogdoches and one at 202 South Franklin Street in Lufkin. On 7-20-2012 an Officer observed a disturbance in the area outside of Hall 16. The Officer made contact with two subjects who were identified as not being students and discovered one of the subjects to be intoxicated to a point of being a danger to himself and others. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.

On 7-16-2012 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Harassment. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 7-15-2012 he received numerous unwanted phone calls from an unknown subject. There are no suspects.
Friday July 13, 2012 – Monday July 16, 2012
On 7-16-2012 an Officer stopped a vehicle on Wettermark St. for a traffic violation. The Officer discovered the driver and a juvenile in possession of marihuana. The driver was arrested for Possession of Marihuana and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. The Juvenile was referred to Juvenile Probation and released. There are two suspects.
On 7-14-2012 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 16 in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 7-14-2012 his unattended cell phone was stolen from the third floor men’s restroom at Hall 16. There are no suspects.
On 7-14-2012 an Officer was contacted by a subject on Alumni Dr. The subject advised the Officer that his vehicle was broken into on Pearl St. and had followed the suspect onto campus. The Officer located the suspect near the Music Building. The suspect fled from the Officer on foot, the Officer caught and detained the subject. The subject was arrested for Evading Arrest or Detention and Criminal Trespass and was transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail. There is one suspect.
