NPD CONDUCTS TOBACCO ENFORCEMENT OPERATION
The Nacogdoches Police Department recently conducted a tobacco enforcement check at several Nacogdoches retail establishments. Officers conducted controlled attempts by a minor to purchase tobacco products.
“We attempted under age purchases at fourteen Nacogdoches stores”, said Nacogdoches Police Chief Jim Sevey. “We are pleased to report 100 per cent compliance, with none selling tobacco to a minor. These retail establishments were completely compliant with the law, and are to be congratulated and commended”, Chief Sevey said.
The stores checked were:

• Rudy’s, 3322 Center Highway
• Rudy’s, 5000 East Main
• Super S Food Mart, 1718 East Main
• Kwik Pantry, 1516 East Main
• University Drive Kwik Stop, 1115 South University
• South Street Liquor, 2004 South Street
• Ken’s Minit Market, 911 West Main
• LaMichoacana, 1000 North Street
• Liquor Mart, 1501 North Street
• M&M Minit Market, 119 Beall Street
• Lumberjack Liquor, 2705 North Street
• DoNut Plus, 4512 North Street
• J.R. Liquor, 1601 North University Drive
Periodic tobacco enforcement operations are conducted within the city by NPD utilizing a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Obituary: Kevin B. Koonce
Kevin B. Koonce, 46, of Etoile, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. He was born on July 31, 1967 in Dallas, Texas.
Kevin was a graduate of Woden High School and of Stephen F. Austin State University. He was a sweet and personable young man. He was a sharp shooter, outdoors man and a very big fan of rescuing dogs.
Mr. Koonce is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Wylie D and Sarah Koonce, John T and Myrtle Lowery; uncles, Tom Lowery, David Koonce, Dean Koonce Wayne Koonce, James Koonce; aunts, Lucille Lazerine, Claudette Bowers; and cousin, Richard Leroy Melton.
Kevin is survived by his loving parents, Wylie Royce and Billie Nell Koonce of Etoile; paternal grandparents, Wylie E and Sarah Koonce; maternal grandparents, J.T and Myrtle Lowery; aunts, Peggy Mettlen and husband Jimmy, Jennett Burgin; uncle, Neil Lowery and wife Elaine, aunt-in-law, Diane Lowery; cousins, Mike, David and Bradley Lowery, Tommy, Jody and Cody Lowery, Jimmy Mettlen ll and many other cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Etoile UPC located at 168 Highway 103 East in Etoile with Bro. Glen Morton officiating. Interment will be at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile. Friends are invited to a visitation from 1-2:30 pm at the church on the day of the funeral service.

RE: P13-14091 — Two victims were approached by a suspect outside the business. The suspect was armed with a firearm and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene running without taking anything. The suspect is described as a black male, 6’0″ tall, wearing dark clothing with a dark bandana covering his face. The case is under investigation and no further information is available.
