Two Tennessee man were arrested after deputies found 10 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car. Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that a Deputy with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a seat belt violation on loop 224 and Highway 21E.
The vehicle was occupied by two males who gave conflicting statements and showed signed of nervousness. The deputy suspected criminal activity was occurring and asked for consent to search the motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle refused. A Narcotics Detector K-9 conducted a free air search on the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the motor vehicle which lead to the discovery of 10 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle that was concealed in a trash bag.
Robbie L. Pickett, 88, passed away on Thursday, September 05, 2013 at Lexington Place in Nacogdoches.
She was born on August 31, 1925.
A graveside service has been planned for 10 am on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches. Friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches.

Mr. Francis Merle Hunt, age 89, passed away on August 20, 2013 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on April 19, 1924 to parents Lewis Elbert Hunt and Nelle Vore Pittman Hunt in Havana, Kansas.
Merle is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 62 yrs, Merle Audrey Morrison Hunt; brother, Vore Hunt; sisters, Marguerite McIlwain , Alice Melander.
He is survived by his son, Gregory Vore Hunt and wife BrandiWynne of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Jan H. Griffin and husband Jimmy of Nacogdoches,Texas, Marsha Crain of Nacogdoches; grandsons, Steven Crain and wife Tamara of Arlington, Tx., Brian Mixon of Palestine, Tx, John Vore Hunt of Park City, Utah; granddaughters, Diane Fullinwider and husband Randy of Katy, Tx, Melissa Mixon Lewis of San Antonio, Tx, Audrey Leanne Hunt Warner and husband Matt of Greeley, Colorado; six great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Devlin; numerous nieces and nephews.
After completing high school, Francis married Merle and went in to the service. He earned Technical Sergeant during WWll for the United States Army. He traveled to Leyte, Phillipines, Luzon and Japan. He earned a purple heart while in the service. Upon his return he used his GI Bill to attend college and graduated with his Agricultural Bachelor Degree from Kansas State University. He became the youngest superintendent in Carnation Ice Cream and Milk Company in Wichita Falls, Texas. He also worked for large companies such as Braums and Cabells Dairy.
Merle was a devoted member of the Methodist church and learned a deep respect for God that he demonstrated in raising his family. He was a quiet man who had excellent moral convictions. He took great pride in caring for his wife for 8 years while she suffered from Alzheimers, until her passing. He was a blessing to his family and those who were around him.
At 3:00pm on Friday, September 6, 2013 a Celebration of Life will take place at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, eulogy offered by Jimmy Griffin and assisted by Butch Haltom. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Havana Cemetery in Havana, Kansas.
The family would like to express “special appreciation” to Rock Haven Nursing Home, Dr. LaBarbera and staff, Nacogdoches Treatment Center and Encompass Home Health for the love and compassion they expressed to Merle and his family during these difficult days.

The 36th Annual Texas TParty is coming to Lufkin with over 100 Model T Fords based at the Holiday Inn Express on S US 59 Wednesday, Oct 2, they’ll be all over Lufkin. They ‘ll visit the Texas Forestry Museum, the Museum of East Texas, the Lufkin Zoo, and ALL the antique shops they can find.
In addition, they’ll do a private car show at the Pine Crest Retirement Center, and then a
public Model T Car Show at Al Meyer Ford from 4:30-7:00pm. Thursday, Oct 3, they drive to Rusk for pictures in front of the Texas State Railroad engine, and then ride the train for a half day. Th
ey’ll return to the Holiday Express parking lot for fixin’ and socializing, and you can see them again there each night.
Friday, Oct 4, its off to the Naranjo Museum of Natural History, The History Center in Diboll, and then lunch at the Cassells-Boykin Pavilion on Lake Sam Rayburn. Then they drive to San Augustine to do the Mission Delores before they return to Lufkin.
Saturday, Oct 5, takes them to Nacogdoches, where they stop at the Visitor’s Bureau and Museum for refreshments. The rest of the morning is spent doing Main Street antique shops, historic houses and the Old University Building. Lunch will be at Clear Spring Restaurant, and the rest of the afternoon will be spent taking in Millard’s Crossing. They’ll return to Lufkin for the last time to enjoy a final banquet at the Crown Colony Country Club.
