Obituary: Mercedes Tucker

Mrs. Mercedes Tucker, age 85, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013.

She was born October 18, 1927, near Broaddus, Texas, to parents Gordon Dewey Stringer and Ina (Ponder) Stringer.

Mercedes and Bill C. Tucker were married July 4, 1947. As they followed Bill’s career in the petroleum industry, the Tuckers lived in various cities in the South. They moved to Nacogdoches in 1985 and enjoyed retirement years in the Deep East Texas area. Mercedes was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches.

Her survivors include her husband of 66 years, Bill C. Tucker of Nacogdoches; a son, William Curtis Tucker and wife Barbara of Stansted, England; two daughters, Mary Beth Tucker of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Harriet Ann Konrad and husband Dave of Houston, Texas; a brother, Orland W. Stringer and wife Carole of Bryant, Arkansas; grandchildren, Michelle Harrell, Amy Allen, Sarah Konrad, Weston and Scott McElwee, and B.J., Matthew, and Sue Tucker; great-grandchildren, Drew Saltus, Cameron Saltus, Lindsay Harrell, Ryan Harrell, Lexie Allensworth, and Ella Allensworth; and great-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Abigail Saltus.

Funeral services have been set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, with Dr. Bill Gandin officiating.

A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hebron Cemetery, located on County Road 4600 off FM 705 between Pineland and Broaddus.

Pallbearers will be Ron Schaub, Bob Stevens, Paul Drawhorn, Jerry Sparks, Scott McElwee, and Weston McElwee. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Cole and John Bingham.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

Obituary: Elma “Beba” Harvey

Mrs. Elma “Beba” Harvey, age 79, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013, in Prescott, Arkansas.
Mrs. Harvey was born August 22, 1934, in Nacogdoches County to parents Pete Martines and Dona (Acosta) Martines. She had been a lifelong resident of the Nacogdoches area before recently relocating to Prescott. She retired from the dietary department of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital after several years of faithful service.
She was an active and dedicated member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nacogdoches. Mrs. Harvey also found great joy in sewing and quilting. Over the years she had donated countless quilts to projects successfully raising funds for fellow employees and citizens who were in need with medical expenses, etc.
Her survivors include her daughters, Rachel Gean Crump of Bastrop, Glenda L. Gragg of Prescott, and Elma Joyce Cobb of Crystal City; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, at the First Church of the Nazarene, located at 211 SE Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches, with Rev. Joseph Dagostino III and Rev. Roger Gragg officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Nacogdoches.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, at Cason Monk-Metcalf, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches.
