Obituary: Mercedes Tucker

Mrs. Mercedes Tucker, age 85, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013.

She was born October 18, 1927, near Broaddus, Texas, to parents Gordon Dewey Stringer and Ina (Ponder) Stringer.

Mercedes and Bill C. Tucker were married July 4, 1947. As they followed Bill’s career in the petroleum industry, the Tuckers lived in various cities in the South. They moved to Nacogdoches in 1985 and enjoyed retirement years in the Deep East Texas area. Mercedes was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches.

Her survivors include her husband of 66 years, Bill C. Tucker of Nacogdoches; a son, William Curtis Tucker and wife Barbara of Stansted, England; two daughters, Mary Beth Tucker of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Harriet Ann Konrad and husband Dave of Houston, Texas; a brother, Orland W. Stringer and wife Carole of Bryant, Arkansas; grandchildren, Michelle Harrell, Amy Allen, Sarah Konrad, Weston and Scott McElwee, and B.J., Matthew, and Sue Tucker; great-grandchildren, Drew Saltus, Cameron Saltus, Lindsay Harrell, Ryan Harrell, Lexie Allensworth, and Ella Allensworth; and great-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Abigail Saltus.

Funeral services have been set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, with Dr. Bill Gandin officiating.

A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hebron Cemetery, located on County Road 4600 off FM 705 between Pineland and Broaddus.

Pallbearers will be Ron Schaub, Bob Stevens, Paul Drawhorn, Jerry Sparks, Scott McElwee, and Weston McElwee. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Cole and John Bingham.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
