On October 24th 2018 at approximately 7:07 pm Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to a disturbance at 2807 Pearl St. which is also known as University Club Apts. Officers arrived and located a male victim that was deceased from a single gunshot to the head in front of an apartment. The victim was identified to be Michael Brucks 19 years of age. The investigation determined the suspect had fled on foot from the scene and was located walking down the roadway. The suspect was identified to be Paul Gutierrez 20 years of age. Information obtained from eyewitnesses indicated that the suspect and victim were acquaintances and no disturbance occurred between these two individuals. Sometime before the shooting the suspect had retrieved a rifle and both individuals began horse playing with the rifle. At some point during this time, while both the victim and suspect had their hands on the rifle, it discharged striking the victim in the head. The suspect is currently being held at the Nacogdoches County Jail on the charge of Manslaughter (Felony 2).
