  1. Ashamed of my FAMILY says:

I am sick and tired of my family and their criminal lifestyles. They are always in trouble. Whether its for drugs, drinking, stealing. They are always into something. Most of them who live in Nacogdoches dont even have jobs. Sad!!!! What really makes me mad is that they are using my deceased grandmother’s address when they are getting arrested. They dont even live there. I am just tired of these people. ANd they wonder why some of us choose not to come around. ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!! How can people live their lives like that everyday. NO JOB, DRUGS, DRINKING, BREAKING AND ENTERING!! Really people???? I am sure that a lot of you will know the family by this address 623 Muckleroy St. How can I get this to stop? They need to stop using her address. She would not approve of this type of behavior.

I CANT STAND MY DEAD BEAT FAMILY!!!!!!

  2. Justsaying says:

I thought all this time that Mr. Slayton was running Tipton Ford. Now I see that it’s Mr. Mike. Heavy on the MR. I have also seen and heard that all is not fair where employees are concerned. But as always it’s department politics and who they like. If you don’t play by certain standards you are overlooked or they try and run you off and say rude things to you. I have worked there before ( in sales) and the favoritisim is out outrageous. But I hear that things are about to change. Lets hope so.

  3. Renee says:

Amen to you about SFA…A degree from SFA is laughed at…It’s all about athletics…No matter if one can’t read. They learn hand signals and flags on field.

  4. Mike says:

    Relissa, you go girl.

  5. Brand New Resident. says:

I just recently moved here about 4 months ago and was hoping to learn a little about the people in the community by visiting this site. I think I have learned enough! Geeze, every one of you should be ashamed for embarrassing yourselves and your community! I can not believe what I’m seeing here, I’m only 22 years old and I feel deeply concerned for the others living in this town. I was considering moving members of my family out here to help them get a fresh start. I now see that will NOT EVER happen. God bless you all.

    • Anonymous says:

Yes. Because normal people make important life decisions based on random Internet comment sections.

    • Wodenite says:

Brand New Resident, Most folks here were born here or have lived here a long time. Many, such as myself moved here to be closer to family. That being said, most folks are not embarrassing anybody. Think of it like this : you know nobody here. We probably all know each other. (I know for a fact I know most who post here) This is a great place to say what needs to be said when something is not right in our communities. Things actually get attention by the proper sources. Some take advantage, most don’t. If you think everything in Nac is bad because of what you read here, you are gravely mistaken. One reason things are as good as they are is because we can say what we need to. Remember you are ONLY 22, and you have very little life experience. And in terms of bringing in family members who are in need of a “fresh start” don’t.
We do not need that garbage here.

      • Brand New Resident. says:

You say you don’t need that ‘garbage’ here? I’m not sure my sister who was brutally raped and beaten is garbage, she Just needed a nice place to settle down and have peace. I can’t believe how hateful and mean you people are. I hope you guys find Jesus Christ. 1 John 4:7-11

        • Sparky says:

          Hey Brand New Resident,
I hope you do not judge all people but what you read here. I for one would welcome nice productive people to this town with open arms. You will find many clicks in our town but if you want to meet really nice people who are genuine, may I suggest Milford s Barber shop. They will treat you right and make you feel welcome.

        • Wodenite says:

Brand New Resident, I am sorry. I was assuming you were referring to someone with a history of crimes, drugs, etc. This is the case with most people who move here to get a “fresh start”. We then wind up with an excess of drugs and theives in our communities. Please don’t think everyone here is a jerk because of what you read here. Most people (including me) get on here to complain about things. Again, I’m sorry for what I said. I spoke without knowing any details, and feel like a fool. Best wishes to you and your sister.

          • Brand New Resident. says:

Thank you for apologizing, that shows very good character.

            • Wodenite says:

Brand New Resident. This has been heavy on my mind all day. It just so happens that the last time a person told me they moved to town to “get a fresh start” they stole my car. I found it in a pasture destroyed. Like I said, I am sorry, I guess I had a flashback.

              • Brand New Resident. says:

That’s really quite a terrible thing to happen, and I’m very sorry for that. Some people are cruel. But you can’t take the bad things that you have experienced and use them against everyone (as my sister would say) You have to accept the evils of the world, but you have to also accept that not everyone is that way. Most of us are victims of the evils in this world. If all of us used it as character Judgement, before long we are all pointing fingers at the wrong people. You have to give some people the benefit of the doubt. Forgive but never forget the lesson you learned. :)

  6. Wodenite says:

To the lady in the white trail blazer who lives in the neighborhood across from the Etoile school: Thank you for passing me in a no passing – construction zone on FM226. I will remember you fondly every time I look at the chip you left in my winshield. The long trip you made from Lowry’s store to the turn in front of the school on Thursday must have worn you out and affected your decision making skills. Thanks Again.

  7. Mike says:

Ellen, you say ” You are so eager to defend your troubled friends.” Gosh, I hope the same can be said about me. Shouldn’t we go to the aid of our troubled friends and offer them comfort?

  8. A Little Bit of Class Goes Along Way... says:

Wow, we should all maybe try to be as perfect as Ellen, or have perfect children. My motto has always been “If you cant have 1st class, try at least to have a little 3rd”. I am not sure where Mrs. Perry came into play here, nor her mental or physical health. Her family has done a lot for our community as well as citizens in the community. Just because two of her grandchildren have made a couple of mistakes, does not really make it that newsworthy. Ellen, if you have a mirror handy, take a look in it and you may find that your the one with mental health issues! Now, just a tid bit of advice…put down your computer and take up knitting or crocheting, or better yet, spend you time doing for this community as the the Perry family has. Now get some rest and maybe you will wake up a happier person in the morning!

    • Take Your Own Advice says:

Wow! “Ellen” is turning out to be exactly the snake I guessed her to be. You really should find a hobby! Instead of spreading gossip about other folks, why don’t you find something productive to do with your time???? Such anger and hatred…perhaps YOU are the one with mental health issues? Seems to be the case, my friend. Lol.

    • Wodenite says:

I don’t have much personal dealings with the Perry family, so I cannot comment towards that. Hopefully, I don’t have any dealings with “Ellen” but this is a small town and truthfully, everyone who posts on here probably knows each other in “real life.” If I complain on here about something, there is usually a legit reason for it, not just to attempt to ruin someone’s reputation. As far as I know, the Perry family is well respected and some nut job on here will not change my outlook on them. If some lady’s grand children like to drink, it is not her fault anyway. “Ellen” may just be a little slow, cut her some slack folks.

      • I Agree says:

I agree with everything Wodenite had so say, except for one thing. Ellen is not slow…she’s just downright mean. People who know Mrs. Perry understand that the woman is hard headed and opinionated, but that just about describes most everyone in East Texas. The lady is in her late 70’s and still works a full schedule at her dealership, in spite of being in poor health. Give her a break! Also, she is in no way responsible for her grand kids actions. Give her a break on that one, too! Better yet, if you have a gripe with Mrs. Perry, why don’t you quit hiding behind the walls of internet anonymity and give her a call or visit her in
        person?

        • A litte curious says:

The comment about her being slow was just a sarcastic, cheap shot on my part. “Ellen” really is mean, rude and childish. Guess I didn’t lay my sarcasm on quite thick enough!

          • Wodenite says:

@ A little curious: No, I was just trying to be polite. No need for name calling. Like I said, we probably all know each other in real life.

  9. Ellen says:

Betty Perry, aka Mike Perry Motor Co.
Is Olivia Grace Perry your granddaughter? Is Ran your grandson? Seems they sure like alcohol. I believe she is 18 and charged with public intoxication. Better clean up your own act before you gossip about everyone else…You have enough going on in your own family to keep your nose out of everyone else’s business!!!!
Might have a little trouble with Olivia getting out of it since NPD got her and not the SO..you seem so tight with some law enforcement…Guess you will need them.

    • concerned citizen says:

She is a “Perry” and the “Perry’s” get away with ALOT in this time, always have, always will. I’m sure she won’t have anything to worry about. It all goes back to “who you are” in this town.

    • Take Your Own Advice says:

“Ellen” is obviously someone with an axe to grind against the Perry family and/or their businesses. Sure, these people aren’t perfect…but who is? And, who’s family doesn’t have a teenager or young adult who hasn’t been in some kind of trouble? Is your family perfect, “Ellen”? I seriously doubt it. So, why not take the advice you have so freely dished out to Betty Perry — mind your own business! By mouthing-off on this forum, aren’t you doing exactly what you’ve accused her of doing — spreading gossip????? You remember the old saying about throwing stones and glass houses? Well, most of us live in glass houses, my friend.

      • Ellen says:

Ditto to Betty Perry clone. Lots of families have wonderful children who earn scholarships, go to college, and make something of themselves. Betty Perry is a sick woman, mentally and physically.
Maybe you think like BP. The Perry clan aren’t what they think they are. Ask NPD???? Two drunken family members???????????

        • Terry says:

Who ever you are Ellen, and think you know Betty Perry so well, I assure you that you do not know her at all. I have known Mrs. Betty Perry for 30 Years and can tell you for sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with her mental abilities. She is a very strong women and did a very good job with her children. She has also done alot for this town anonymously. I can speak from fact, that Nacogdoches as a whole is much better for having the Perry family than any of your misguided opinion.

        • Kelsey says:

“Ellen” You obviously dont know Betty Perry or the Perry family, which happens to be my family! You are the sick person and you need to mind your own buisness. I am posting because I feel the need to defend my family and I will not have anyone calling Betty Perry a “sick” woman or running down my family! We are not perfect and we do not claim to be. How can you tell someone to clean up there act before they spread gossip when thats all you do is spread gossip! Before you talk about someone elses family maybe you should take a step back and look at your life? Is it perfect? I doubt it is!!! Now for my final comment: Keep the Perry name out of your mouth!!!

      • Ellen says:

I am NOT YOUR FRIEND< Do not address me as such…sicko

      • Ellen says:

Learn proper tenses of verbs. Igmo

      • Ellen says:

Not gossip. TRUTH. READ THE NEWS AND ARREST REPORT if you have trouble with my post.

        • Ellen should post her last name since she is so high and mighty says:

Anyone can read arrest reports and start spreading gossip. Why don’t you wait and find out what happens in court before you start your gossip. In this beautiful country anyone is innocent until proven guilty. Maybe you have some more reading to do. Everyone makes mistakes, including the Nac PD. Go back and do some proper research.

      • Ellen says:

I do not live in a glass house as you do….You are so eager to defend troubled friends……WIMP WIMP WIMP

        • Sparky says:

Ellen, you are way out of line. Someone should have taught you manners. You should not judge one person for the actions of another. I hope your child or grandchild will always be as perfect as you think they are. By the way, I am not defending anyone, just pointing out how rude you are.

    • You Know Who I Am says:

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned . Forgive and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37

    • COP says:

Ellen your probaly some little girl whose just jealous of the perrys and the life they live everyone of them are awesome people! Shut your mouth and stop spreading gossip like a child!xoxo

  10. Relissa bailey says:

Anybody that lives in nacogdoches on WODEN RD you are aware of the “HIPPIE SHACK”. There was yet ANOTHER death yesterday due to DRUG OVERDOSE which is one of MANY! It has no electricity, no running water, no utilities of ANY type! This place is home to vagrants of all types which could be rapist felons murders WHO KNOWS? And they are living in a community FULL of WOMEN AND CHILDREN! The shack was allegedly condemned 3 years ago due to insanitary conditions. In MY OWN OPINION the shack needs to be bulldozed and gone completely!! It’s an eyesore to our community as well as a threat to the surrounding children and families!

    • Sparky says:

I could not agree more. It needs to go.

    • A litte curious says:

Relissa Bailey, are you a member of the Baily family that is known for harboring fugitives, rape, and bringing multiple drugs into our community? As well as the eyesore known as Baily Bark? Not that you had anything to do with it, just A little curious….

      • WOW says:

I will answer that, yes she is a member of the Bailey family.

      • Relissa Bailey says:

Yes I am a member of the Bailey family, with an e . 1st, harboring fugitives? Who was harboring fugitives? 2nd Rape? If you’d followed the news you would know he was charged but found not guilty. Bringing multiple drugs into our county? Apparently you know more about that than I do. Yes, unfortunately some members of this family did have problems with drugs and run ins with the law. They did and/or are doing their time and punishment for it. You’re right, I had nothing to do with that. I hope and pray you never have to go through that with anyone you love. You may want to do a little homework before you start making such accusations. As for Bailey Bark. It is a company that deals with dirt, bark, heavy equipment, trucks and such so no its not a pristine company. It’s dirty work but just like any other company in this town it brings revenue and jobs to this county. So I hope that satisfies a little of your curiosity. And do note that I did use my real name and am not afraid to hide behind an alias. Now, with that being said, my opinion still stands about the Hippie Shack. If you lived near it I’m sure you would agree. God Bless and good day!

        • wow says:

          good answer relissa Bailey

        • Sparky says:

Good For you! Great answer. The Bailey’s I know have always been really nice to me.

        • Disgusted. says:

Props to this Ms. Bailey woman. Power to her for standing up for her family and not letting these crazy Judgmental people who have nothing better to do than stick their nose in someone elses business get to her. You rock!!

        • A little curious says:

I was wrong, they were not harboring fugitives, they were fugitives. Yes, the rape charge was dropped, but that does not mean he didn’t do it, it means they could not prove it in court. Yes, I do know about all the drugs brought in. I had family who used to buy from your family. Some members of your family ruined some members of mine. So, go ahead and complain about the only drug outlet around not run by your family. I want it shut down too.

          • John Boundy says:

The rape charge was not dropped. Mr. Bailey was found not guilty by a jury. After a hotly contested trial. Big difference.

          • Relissa Bailey says:

A little curious, You knew about all the illegal drugs being brought into this county? Really?Hhhmm… Were you a part of them being brought in? If not did you contact the authorities about it? I ask because if I knew that much information as to who was selling the people I love dope I’d have them locked up in a heartbeat! I’m more than a little curious about that. I could argue the point that it is possible that members of your family ruined some members of mine after you made that statement but I’m a bigger person than that and the statement that you knew about “all the illegal drugs being brought in” just spoke volumes! “They” were fugitives? Plural? Who were “they”? I think you meant “he”. My family has accepted responsibility for their mistakes and as stated before have done or are doing their time and punishment for it. Now when you can tell me what drug outlet is allegedly run by my family my ears are open but until then you are wasting your breath and my time. Defamation of character is serious so unless you honestly know firsthand and can prove what you’re talking about I’d really be careful with my words. Apparently you did not read or get the context of what I was complaining about regarding the Hippie Shack to begin with. Or maybe it hit a little too close to home. Nonetheless, at this point I really just want to laugh at you, but instead I will continue to pray for you and your family as I do mine. A little advise, rocks and glass houses don’t mix. On a brighter note I’m glad to hear you do want it shut down too, so we do agree on one thing. My conscience has no problem letting me lay my head down and sleep good at night so God Bless and good night.

            • IRON MAN says:

Im just wondering how the Baileys came under fire when all Ms Bailey is apparently trying to do is protect her community. Seems to me that’s what concerns her. Anybody that cares for their family is going to try to protect them. Especially from mindless, hateful people like just a little curious. I don’t think its fair to bring her family under fire when she has no control over it. She has several valid points. I live in the area and I know exactly what she’s talking about with the shack. Seems to me just a little curious has a guilty conscience, something to hide or just a grudge of some sort. also seems to me they don’t have all their facts. but that’s just my opinion. I agree completely with Ms Bailey. I think the shack needs to be gone too. Kudos to you Ms Bailey!

          • I already know says:

A Little Curious… Did you ever think that maybe it could have been your family that had or has problems. Maybe you should grow up and accept responsibility. Even in the 12 steps the first one is admitting you have a problem. Maybe y’all need some rehab along with the hippies. Apparently you don’t know a thing about the Bailey’s. sounds like you need to do your homework. The Bailey’s have always been good people and I will have their back any day and if you have any problem with that then get over it. Sounds like to me you are just jealous of the Bailey’s…or are you a hippie yourself?

  11. out of towner says:

why is the city of nacogdoches so againist Bullfrogs owner Ricky Miller? The paper made it seem as he was selling cocaine come to found out it was adderall! I guesss his time has ran out for the good oloe boys!

    • Concerned Citizen 2 says:

When was it in the paper? Seems to me every time someone of higher stature in the community does something illegal it gets reported then swept under the rug. You do the crime, you do the time. Just like the rest of us “nobody’s”.

  12. Rachel says:

Can someone tell me why Holly Boatman Crawford’s arrest (for possession of a controlled substance) & mugshot wasn’t in the paper or on ktre news?!? Why do they pick & choose?? Fair is fair & they should blast that like they do everything else. Oh wait… Is it maybe due to the fact her parents are who they are?!?

    • concerned citizen says:

probably same reason a constables son wasn’t blasted anywhere its the pick and choose system.

    • Concerned Citizen 2 says:

I didn’t realize she actually got arested? I was told her salon and her house were both searched and nothing was found. I’m sure she was tipped off and got rid of whatever “controlled substance” she had. Everyone knows she’s been wheeling and dealing in the “dope” for years. Can’t hide much in a small town for very long.

      • Rachel says:

Oh yes! She got arrested mid June in lufkin for possession of a controlled substance. Nacogdoches never heard anything about it tho did they?!?

      • Annoyed says:

She is into meth and every other drug. Look at her mugshot. That says it all. She’s a disgrace to her parents name. I heard her own brother won’t even talk to her. Not to mention her addict of a husband. Her salon should be shut down. A little less meth with my shampoo please!

        • hmmm says:

Her salon should be shut down. It’s really sad when you have to shut down your other salon because your getting no business and open under another name and hide the fact that your the owner so they will get business. Anyone who works there should be ashamed of themselves for associating themselves with trash like that. She only got married because she knew they were about to bust her and her husband could possibly testify against her. Then they moved out of Nac county hoping to not get busted. And shame on her daddy for bailing her out every time she messes up.

          • Annoyed says:

It’s a shame somebody with that kind of reputation is representing downtown nacogdoches. Last I heard all the good stylists left her anyways. Everybody knows they were selling to fontenot. maybe he will bring them down. And the only reason I know any of this is bc she talks about in salon h. Went once and will never go back.

            • hmmmm says:

Im sure we won’t be hearing anything else about her or fontenot when it comes to anything else being done. Im sure its all been swept under the table.

          • Why says:

I don’t understand why anyone would give her their business. By using her salon or her, you are just providing her with money to buy and sell her drugs. I’ve seen her in public. It is easy to tell she’s on something. The funny part is she thinks she fools everyone. Meth heads fool no one.

            • Salon H? says:

Holly Boatman Crawford is one disgusting human being. She and her ex-boyfriend use to “hire” a girl for a third partner in their trips to houston. Once they broke up, she found the “love of her life” in her new husband. They got married so that he nor she could testify against each other in a court of law. They were in with Brad F selling him the date rape drug. She thinks she is above the law and we all hope that it catches up with her. Anyone the ever goes to Dollhead Salon is just fueling the fire that is her addiction. Her poor children, hope that they get taken away soon and she and her husband go to jail for their drug dealings all over town. Gross people!!!!

    • Pudge says:

I guess she falls in there with the rest of the “good ole boys” in this town. Haven’t heard anything about Brad Fontenot either have we? Wonder what happened with that?

To whom it may concerne,I beleive there is much more to concider than to choose MR,Davis as your high school principal.I feel he is unfair, in punishments, and picks and choosess favorites. He has allso been known to follow students to restroom and wait for them to get out, isn’t that stalking.I beleive he needs to go over his job discription, and stick to it .If i was him i wouldnt want to switch to high school, you think jr,high students are mean, your in for a surprise.,,,In all honesty people i think you should reconcider the position of high school principle,he has verry poor judgement, and picks favorites. Not who i would vote for.

  14. Wodenite says:

Drewery construction has completely messed up FM 226 close to Etoile. They have a complete lack of concern for the safety of anyone traveling that stretch of road as long as they get paid. I called them to complain after getting stuck in the middle of the road and one of the “owners” pretty well told me to kiss off because I didn’t know what I was talking about. They are already responsible for 1 death in that area due to poor construction and lack of road signs. I will be very suprised if it does not happen again. They should be banned from doing ANY road work in Nacogdoches county and whoever hired them should be fired. My next phone call and e-mail will be to Texas Dept. of Transportation. Shoddy, unsafe road work should not be allowed to happen.

    • Wodenite says:

P.S. just as a side note, I think Obama is an idiot…. just had to throw that out there.

      • Dude says:

You are correct as to both comments.

        • Wodenite says:

Need further proof I’m right? Just look at the May 14th sheriff activity report. There was a major accident on 226 at the Etoile School. I just hope the driver(s) were ok. I’m no psychic, but I called it four days earlier.

  15. Wodenite says:

    To Jason Bridges:
We are proud of the job you and your staff are doing cleaning up the county and getting rid of drugs. It’s about time to have a Sheriff we can count on to do what needs to be done. I do have a suggestion for the Sheriff Dept. website, it would be a great tool to include a list of local wanted people that citizens could look at and report if seen. (Not to mention folks could check if they have a warrant to resolve the matter without an arrest.) I am by no means a law enforcement officer, but I am willing to keep an eye out to protect my family and friends. Folks, what do yall think about it?

    • Billy Dix says:

It’s a great idea. They should do it.

    • Jason Bridges says:

I think that is a very good idea, and something that we have talked about. We have plans on really adding a lot more to our website, right now our task has been on some other areas that we have been addressing. Thank you for your input, give us just a little more time to focus on that and you should see some good changes on the web site.

  18. astonished says:

What happened to Deputy Ben Curtis? Was astonished to find out when I called to request for his help in a previous case that he was no longer working for the Sheriff’s Office. He was always in the paper going above and beyond the call of duty and working so hard to do all he could to help others. It’s a crying shame when new administration moves in and removes the best they had. Deputy Curtis you are missed by many. Your dedication is commendable sir.

  19. NO TO DRUG IN CH says:

What about the mother and son dope ring . What happened to the CI like father like son . Who does he work for know?

    • smoke screen says:

it was in the paper Sunday. Had their hearing and will appear before the judge in I believe March. Not sure about whatever you meant by the last part of your comment..

      • Anonymous says:

Are you talking about the boy that got caught and turned the mom and son in . Yes his father has sold dope for years. But everyone knows this.

        • Say What ? says:

No sympathy for the C.H. cartel no matter how they got caught , but if someone has info on other dealers of drugs to our kids I think it’s their duty to report it. Who are we concerned about, our neighbors that have deceived us or our kids?

Well, just like some predicted, the house of cards at Appleby is coming down.
    Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 3:36PM

Lately there have been lots of rumors and lies being spread around Nacogdoches County about Appleby Fire Department. I can’t stress how important it is that people please contact us immediately if you hear something that sounds sketchy, far fetched, or just downright asinine. Some of the misinformation is coming from within, but most is coming from those outside of the fire deparment that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. We’ve heard everything from we bought a $300,000 brand new rescue truck (we bought an $85,000 used rescue truck) to our ISO rating will increase because we don’t have our pumper (the rate is not increasing and our pumper is in the shop for repair). The jealousy of others and the dislike of some of the members of the fire department have caused some people to go on a witch hunt. This does nothing but create undue stress and heartache among those that are simply trying to provide the best possible fire protection to the citizens of Appleby and ESD #3. Also, don’t believe everything you read in the newspaper folks, they seldom get things right when it comes to anything dealing with the volunteer fire departments in Nacogdoches County.

This is directly from their own website, posted by Dave Crawford hisownself. The rumors were apparently true, and the lies were coming from inside the department telling us nothing was wrong. Maybe they won’t walk around with an air of superiority when their house of cards comes tumbling down.

Amen! The truth of the matter is that very few of the current members of Appleby VFD even live within their response area. They are outsiders who came in and took control of the department and rode it into the ground. I hope someone can come up with a workable plan to provide fire protection to the folks living in the Appleby area.

The difference is that people pay to see them do their job. Nobody wants to watch you cut trees or build houses. These men kill each other for entertainment. It’s still a job.

I would have to disagree. Many people watch Axe men and Extreme home makeover. So yes in our society we will watch anything. Even crap like Honey BOO BOO! That, in a nutshell, is part of the problem.

I would not recommend holding your breath for Clardy to fix anything. He’s in this for himself.

Yes Christi they have a son together, and I’m her datghuer. What if he looked up his parents and saw everything that was being posted. Not only is he reading what you/others put, going to school and being tormented because everyone has to be so rude. The only way you would know IF they exposed him to anything is if YOU were there. now if your done hurting the family of these people please shut up. That’s all you/others are doing. Your not hurting them they cant read this but the families can!

Having trouble feeling sorry for these overpaid football players with their health problems after retirement. They never consider what a real working person deals with for a salary of pennies compared to the NFL . Try construction, logging, farming or some other real job for about 40 years ,then whine about your health or income.

I hate to say it but you really cant teach an old dog new trkcis! I have had the disgust of being intertwined with Cathy since 1995. I know for a fact since 2002 she has been in trouble with the law concerning meth. We gained custody of her 2 daughters in 2003 for her use of meth and other reasons I wont mention. The saddest part of the whole thing is in the last 10 years what has she put her kids through most of all her son. Ive read all the comments and its funny how the ones defending her remain annonymus except Amber. Ambers got nothing to loose except trying to prove all of us wrong. You all say she didnt do it and she didnt expose her kids to anything. Well your all wrong she did. Maybe she wasnt smoking, cooking or selling meth in front of her children, but she was exsposing her kids. You think she only did meth was when her child wasnt around? Come on lets get real here. Im a firm believer that past behavior predicts future behavior. Do you really think they were just storing a meth lab? Do they have pips, baggies, and scales for the fun of it? HELL NO!! What purpose would they have them for if they were not cooking and selling Meth. Im also a firm believer in second chances and redemption but Cathy has used all of her nine lives and get out of jail free cards and then some. Amber, I feel sorry for you the most, you keep allowing yourself to get sucked into her web and thats a shame cause you were taught and told better. How many second chances do you give someone? Say what you want you know deep down shes guilty. Admitting that to yourself is hard because that would be admitting that we were right all those years and now. I hope you get the help you need to fight all your demons and quit relying on someone else to make you feel good about yourslf. Cause in reality only you can make yourself happy.

    Terry,

I’m with you 100%!!! Thank you. Too many people are sleeping and allowing SFA to do anything. The quality education is not there anymore.

    • Terry says:

Thank you Cathy. I know that there are many good (great) men and women at SFA trying to do their best for our children academically. It is just a shame the emphasis the administration has placed on things other than what should be their true mission these past several years.

    • Terry says:

Thank you Cathy. I know there are many good (great) men and women at SFA trying their best to provide solid and valuble educational experiences to our children. It would be nice to see these folks supported and rewarded for their efforts, yet the emphasis of the current administration seems to be more on things other than what should be there true mission.

  25. Terry says:

    Dear Mr. Clardy,

Stop this nonsense when it comes to a vote in the legislature next year!

I just read with amazement about the “referendum” on the Intercollegiate Athletic Fee (IAF) which was just passed by a considerable minority of students of Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU). I am shocked that less than 7% of the student population of SFA is allowed to impose such a future indebtedness onto the remaining 93% of their fellow students. I know the argument will be that all students were given the opportunity to vote, but were they really? Why was this issue scheduled for vote in the busiest time of the academic year? Were students truly made aware of the financial impact of the decision before the vote? Were those students who voted for this fee primarily student athletes who were unduly influenced by coaches and staff?

I was further shocked by reading the spin being put on this fee now being forced upon students and their families. To quote the Daily Sentinel:

“According to the university, starting in spring of 2014, the student services fee would be decreased by $3 to $9, and the IAF would be created at $9. The second step in fall 2014 will increase the IAF by $9, and the net result would reduce the student service fee by $3 and set the athletic fee at $18. “

I don’t know who is doing the math here, but by my calculations the net would be an overall increase in student fees by $15 per semester hour taken. For a student taking 15 hours per semester this “nets out” to a per semester fee increase of $225. Going further with this analysis, it creates a minimum of $1,800 in additional debt obligation for each student undergrad who graduates from SFA ($225 X 8 semesters=) . (By the way, what happens to the SSF and IAF in future years? Are they capped or can they be increased arbitrarily in the future?)

The paper goes onto to say:

“The fee is expected to generate about $2 million in revenue for SFA.”

Although it does not indicate over what period this sum would be generated, this appears to be misleading. The latest records I was able to find indicate there is currently a student population of around 12,903 students attending SFA. Assuming an average course load of 12 semester hours for each student enrolled this would generate in excess of $2.3 million per semester (12 hours X $15/hour X 12,903 students =). Again, carrying this out it would generate in excess of $18 million in fees (costs to student body) over a standard eight semester entry to graduation period. (According to the article, the current athletic budget at SFA is $13 million dollars annually. So with this fee the students are being asked (forced) to increase that budget by more than 35% each year ($2.3 million X 2 semesters = $4.6 million / $13million =). In this economy who else is getting a raise of this magnitude?

The Sentinel also cites Mr. Dennis Hagans, President of the Student Government Association. He is quoted as saying:

“Hagans said some students were confused about the referendum—its purpose and cost. I had a lot of conversations with them. But it puts me at ease to know students are willing to contribute to us moving forward.”

I am certainly confused as to what Mr. Hagans’ understanding of the purpose and cost this fee (he reminds me of Pelosi and Reid) will be to the current and future students of SFA. I don’t know how he has been “put so at ease” when again less than 7% of the student population has imposed such a burden on the remaining 93%. And what is the noble purpose, the “ moving forward”, for which Mr. Hagans believes this money will be used.

This fee’s purpose, as indicated in this and a previous article, is reported to provide for SFA’s ability to “compete athletically”. I am not really sure what this means? Do bigger stadiums and ball parks really make us play better? If so, why do we play no better when we play in competitors “better” venues or do our competition not play worse when they travel to SFA’s venues?

It really sounds more like a way to fund the construction of future monuments to yet named egos (I seem to recall the rejection by the tax payers a few years back regarding the construction of a new ballpark. Is this perhaps just another way to circumvent the will of the citizens/taxpayer?) . Rather than building monuments shouldn’t all emphasis really be placed on the primary purpose of this and all universities, that being academics. Does SFA have the best instructors and professors they can possibly provide to their students? Are these men and women being properly compensated for what we are asking of them, that being to produce excellence in our future leaders?

Being a college graduate, I am all for students having the “college experience” but at what cost folks. Our nation and its citizens are currently drowning in debt and a growing component of that for our next generation is student debt (the next “financial cliff” on the horizon according to many). It is time we look to reduce the burden on our children rather than to find silly ways to continue its growth. How about we build the classrooms and forgo building the campus edifices and egos for a while?

Again Travis, I implore you to stop not only this instant nonsense but also the overall out of control educational costs in our state .

I will tell you that behind the big purple curtain, they were desperately encouraging all athletes and to vote this in. This money will go to pad coach salaries. The SFA WAY no longer honors integrity, unity, respect, caring, or responsibility.
The upper levels of administration are packing their golden parachutes and leaving this place in a shambles for future generations.
Look at how many Administrators, VP’s and Executive-level positions have been created/hired, versus Professors.

The new motto that the “branding agency” (helmed by familial crooks) should use is “RECREATION OVER EDUCATION!”
