(APRIL 3, 2024): At approximately 4:03 p.m. on October 28, 2023, officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to 128 S. Stone St. for a welfare check. Officers arrived finding two women deceased at the residence from suspected gunshot wounds. Investigating NPD Officers were able to identify the deceased as Laura Jean Sanford and her daughter Laquice Sanford.
NPD’s Patrol, Criminal Investigation and Technical Services Divisions began investigating the incident, which included gathering evidence and interviewing individuals.
Recently, a Nacogdoches County Grand Jury heard evidence related to this investigation. As a result of their evidence review, a Nacogdoches County Grand Jury indicted Laquice Sanford’s boyfriend, Ronnie Jernigan Jr., 41, of Nacogdoches for the offense of Capital Murder. Ronnie Jernigan Jr is currently incarcerated in the Nacogdoches County Law Enforcement Center charged with Capital Murder.
