CHEMICAL PLANT FIRE IN SHEPHERD, TX

This morning the San Jacinto County Emergency Management office released information regarding a chemical plant fire occurring in Shepherd, Texas. Sound Resource Solutions, a trucking company that specializes in blending and distributing oil-based products, had caught fire and produced a large plume of smoke that is traveling north-easterly.

Nacogdoches County Emergency Management has been in contact with state partners to confirm no danger exists for Nacogdoches residents at this time. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will continue to conduct air monitoring at the plant site and at strategic locations throughout San Jacinto and Polk counties to actively survey potential hazards. Relevant updates will be shared on the Nacogdoches County Emergency Management Facebook page.

The Texas Department of Transportation reports US-59 remains closed from Shepherd to US-190 in Livingston. Motorists should expect delays as traffic is detoured.
