SFA’s Kantorei, Singin’ Axes choirs to present ‘Let Me Listen’ concert program

The Kantorei Choir and Singin’ Axes at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program “Let Me Listen” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

“Let Me Listen” is the title of one of the Kantorei Choir’s selections written by American composer Dan Forrest with poetry by Charles Anthony Silvestri, according to Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities at SFA and the choirs’ director.

“Our world has so many different stories, and we oftentimes live in fear of things that we don’t understand, especially where marginalized communities are concerned,” Fish said. “Silvestri’s text reminded me of a quote that a wise man once said to a group of which I was a part: ‘We live in a world where everyone is talking all the time. Music makes us listen.'”

Joining the performance of “Let Me Listen” will be Larry Greer, School of Music faculty member and guitarist, in the first musical collaboration between Fish and Greer.

Other works to be performed are “I Remember” by Sarah Quartel and “The Three Ravens” by Sarah Malin Young.

Undergraduate voice majors Ren Bautisita, junior from of Manvel, and D.J. Provencio, senior from Rockwall, will play percussion for the choirs on several pieces.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students and youth. To purchase tickets, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407 or visit sfasu.edu/boxoffice. For additional information, contact the SFA School of Music at (936) 468-4602.
