SFA music faculty, students to present ‘Celleuphoria’

Gene RaychevThe School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Celleuphoria” at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

“Celleuphoria” is a concert featuring the cello in “an intense emotional state viewed from different angles of time through the eyes of highly regarded composers,” according to Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello instructor at SFA. The concert will feature compositions from the Baroque, Romantic and post-Romantic periods, as well as the 20th and 21st centuries.

Raychev will be joined on stage by colleagues Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Minhae Lee, piano; Melissa Nabb, viola; and Brad Mayer, percussion. Some of Raychev’s current and prospective cello students will also perform.

“The character of the pieces we will perform changes from plaintive to sentimental and all the way through euphoric,” he said. “It is going to be a very special experience to play alongside dear friends and talented students.”
