Stephen F. Austin State University’s Stone Fort Museum will host the event “History All Day on The Longest Day” June 19 at the museum to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting throughout the day, the come-and-go event will feature a plethora of activities, including card games, blackberry cobbler cooking in a Dutch oven and traditional craft making. McWilliams and Son Heating and Air Conditioning employees also will be present to host a spinner game for attendees.

“The museum’s participation in the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day event is an opportunity to share early East Texas food, games and crafts with the community while raising awareness for Alzheimer’s research,” said Carolyn Spears, Stone Fort Museum director. “It’s a win-win for the museum’s educational and public service goals.”

The Longest Day is an annual fundraiser in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. According to their website, the summer solstice — which, as the longest day of the year, also is the day with the most light — is a time for thousands of participants from around the world to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through fundraising activities.

Visitors can support the fundraiser by buying a seat at a card game, a seat at the craft table or a finished craft. They also may donate for a taste of blackberry cobbler. Patrons also can join the Stone Fort Crew and get friends and family to sponsor their activities.

To donate or join the crew, visit act.alz.org/goto/stonefortcrew. To sign up to volunteer at the event, visit gosfa.com/longestday.
