Nacogdoches County Hospital District postpones public welcome for Memorial’s Lion Star Group

A chamber ribbon cutting and introduction to the Nacogdoches community planned for the new owners of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 4 has been postponed by organizers due to the current COVID-19 situation.

“Due to the threat of the Delta variant and increasing COVID numbers we’re seeing in Nacogdoches and surrounding counties, we have decided to postpone the public portion of our event which had been scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Auxiliary Conference Center,” said Kim Barton, community relations director for Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

On Tuesday afternoon, officials with the Lion Star Group and the hospital district decided to act out of an abundance of caution by restricting the occasion to hospital staff only.

“Officials agreed that it would not be appropriate to unnecessarily expose outside attendees to what could potentially turn into a super-spreader event. Memorial employees, however, will still get to enjoy the refreshments and treats planned for the affair,” said Barton.

“We continue to take all recommended safety precautions for the health of our employees and patients that we serve,” she said. “Masking and COVID screening procedures are still in effect at the hospital.”
