The City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Department typically hosts an annual Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event on the second Saturday in January at the Durst-Taylor Historic House & Gardens. The 2018 event, unfortunately, will not take place.

This event, a favorite for many, is completely dependent on the sugarcane crop grown throughout the year at the Durst-Taylor Historic House & Gardens. Just like in the 1840’s, crops sometimes fail, the weather doesn’t cooperate and plans have to change. The cane that was planted in early 2017 unfortunately did not yield a crop. We plan on taking this unfortunate set back as an opportunity to replant our crop and reimagine the Sugarcane event; possibly adding new partners, events and activities.

The Durst-Taylor Historic House & Gardens is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours of the property are always free of charge. We hope that everyone will come to the Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event in 2019!
